Has anyone tried there wheels in the dishwasher?

Featured Replies

bit random but was cleaning up brothers wheels at weekend and though about putting it in dishwasher but thought id be murdered for doing it but thought it must be a lazy way to do it if youve not got any tyres on?

Are you married/engaged or have a girlfriend?

If you put your wheels in the dishwasher, you will have to fork out for a new one or find a pair of second hand ******** for when she takes yours.

Seriously no.

If you have a big tank however you can dip them in pretty hot water with a dishwasher tablet or two in it to clean them up.

LOL! Do it!

Then call the repair man to fix the dishwasher... hehe

Suppose it would work ok... but doesn't seem much point... can't beat a bit of old fashioned elbow grease!

Phil

Probably would work a treat - just deflate them at tad at first and rinse off any loose grime to be on the safe side.

I know a good divorce lawyer to if you're interested.....

You on commission with advice like that Basil?

I knew a chap once that did wheel trims in the dishwasher and regularily took his alloys off and did them in the bath.

All with wifeys permission.

My wife is the dishwasher.

I suppose it makes a change from playing with little boats.

Seriously though, it sounds like it may work. I would only worry about the high salt content of dishwasher tablets etc corroding the wheel and whether it would strip protective layers off. You would certainly have to wax them after they had been so effectively degreased.

My wife raised an eyebrow when I did an A series rocker cover in the dishwasher but she knows better than to ask stupid questions...

it was the best looking bit on the whole car!

I knew dishwashers had to have a use other than cleaning dishes :D

Header tanks come out lovely after a dishwashing.

Might take my rocker cover off tomorrow then and stick it in the... oh... wait... i don't have a dishwasher!!!

lol

I had my alloys in the bath a few weeks back... i was in bad books but said not to worry as i would clean all the oil and dirt up! hehe

I wish......

I once put a Ford 1.6 CVH cylinderhead in the dishwasher, made a real stink, like boiling hot gunk, all through the house.

SWMBO was not at all impressed i tell thee!:mad::eek::mad::eek::mad:

Anyway, it did a sterling job of cleaning the head! lol

Havent dared do it since though, mind you i did sneak a windscreen washer bottle in with the dishes one evening !

Hi Got some thing for you but i am not to be blamed if some thing goes wrong, (imean not with your wheel but ??)

Clean what in your dishwasher?

Josephine Cochrane, a proper 19th Century Shelbyville, Illinois socialite and inventor of the automatic dishwasher, would be deeply disappointed if she knew what people are washing in today’s dishwashers.

Originally invented to wash Josephine’s fine china after large dinner parties at her estate (Josephine didn’t care for the way her servants did the dishes), today’s dishwasher is used in ways that Josephine would not dare consider.

While most homeowners use their dishwasher to clean dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, some are pushing the envelope and asking far more of their dishwashers.

Turn your dishwasher into a household cleaning machine!

Car hubcaps and wheel covers

Hubcaps and wheel covers come squeaky clean when washed in the dishwasher. Use the pots and pans wash cycle for a deep cleaning.

Baseball hats

Place the hat on the top rack (this will help retain its shape). Use the normal wash cycle to clean the surface of the hat.

Keyboards

Pop off the keys and put them in the utensil container. Wrap the USB connector end in plastic to keep it dry. Lay the keyboard face down on the top rack. Use the normal wash cycle and let the keyboard dry before putting the keys back on. The keyboard will be squeaky clean and germ free.

Child/pet toys

Any toy made of hard plastic and not battery operated is dishwasher safe. Use the normal wash cycle to rid the toys of dirt and germs.

Plastic flip flops, rubber boots, and even Crocs

All types of plastic and rubber footwear is dishwasher safe and can be cleaned using the pots and pans wash cycle. Adding baking soda to the detergent dispenser will boost the cleaning power of your dishwasher.

Sporting equipment

Hockey pads, kneepads and shin guards can be cleaned and sterilized in the dishwasher. Use the normal wash cycle but do not use detergent or the dry cycle.

Plastic, metal and glass wall shelving, refrigerator shelving and storage bins

All are dishwasher safe and can be cleaned using the normal wash cycle.

Hand tools and garden tools

Providing that there is no rust or too much dirt buildup on the tools, they can be washed using the normal wash cycle. Prevent surface rust buildup by drying the tools when the wash cycle is complete.

Broom head and dustpan

All plastic types are dishwasher safe and will be revived after being washed on the normal cycle.

Household fans

Remove the faceplate/grill from the fan and lay it on the bottom shelf. Use the normal wash cycle. Dry off the faceplate/grill when the cycle is complete and the fan will be clean and dust free.

Despite Josephine’s original intentions for her wonderful invention, you have to agree that dishwashers are far more versatile than anyone imagined. If it is plastic, metal or non-porous you can clean it in your dishwasher!

Happy Dishwashing!
