Gearbox oil

Featured Replies

Hey chaps.

Going to change the oil in gearbox as i doubt its ever been done.

The haynes says to use SAE 75w 90 oil... would i be ok to use a slightly different grade such as 75w 80?

Where am i best getting it from as i'll need approx 2.5l of the stuff and having a look on Halfrauds they only do it in 1l bottles.

Thanks

Phil

Yeh thats why i was asking about where to get it from as that is damn expensive!

Don't have a Halfords trade card no... read that thread some time ago but can't get one unfortunately!

Will have a look on yell at what motor factors are around me.

Should that grade of oil be ok though?

Phil

Hi, i think both grades are ok. Going for 75W80 gearoil will slightly raise the performance because of less viscosity and still lubricates the gearbox and differential properly. 75W90 gearoil is more suitable for use where there are long periods between oil changes.

I hope this helps:)

I'd use a 75W90 EP gearoil.

go to a motor factors, it will be cheaper, i paid £10 fo 5 litres
