starting problem

Featured Replies

Hi, i am a new member at Briskoda. I have a 1.3 97 felicia for 4 years and really proud of. The car is very reliable but i had a weird problem starting the car on two occasions. When i turn the key the starter motor won't start and i hear a tick from the fuse box. After trying many times, the starter motor will eventually start and the problem won't occur again for a long time.

Is it a problem in the ignition switch or the starter motor itself? I need your help gyus.

Welll initial thoughts would be the ignition switch as this is a common problem on the felicia... but if there is a "tick" from the fuse box then this indicated that there is contact being made in the ignition switch to trigger a relay off.

I assume the tick occurs when you turn the key to the start position?

Maybe a ****y starter motor?!

Many thanks for responding in a short time. I think you are right since there is ticking in the fuse box then the ignition switch is OK i think. I will check the starter Motor soon and share the advice with all other briskodians.

By the way, i really like your posts and i found many useful tips, many thanks again:thumbup:

No worries... hope you get it sorted!

Could be worn/dirty brushes that are causing the problem... so sometimes if the motor is stopped in a certain position they don't make proper contact inside the motor and therefore it will not turn...

You could try taking the motor off and giving it a clean out.

I'd suspect the solonoid, rather than the starter motor itself, with these symptoms. Is it more likely to click when the engine's hot?

yes, the problem only occured when the engine is up to normaltemperature, any advice?

I'm still not 100% definite on this, but that's also diagnostic of a bad solonoid (which was my first reaction).
