National Fuel Protest 22nd June

Featured Replies

There will be a national fuel protest on Sunday the 22nd June in all major towns and cities. Think its a good chance for us all to put up or shut up! Check out your local press or search the net for details.

Seems most events are kicking off at 11am

That good. There must have been at least 27 protests a week for the last 4 week. I wonder if this one will fail as miserably as they all did.

Still, it makes a change from signing stupid petitions that are destined to have no impact whatsoever.

When were we meant to go out and panic buy carrots? That must be due soon

This sounds a good idea will go along for a look and support this, but I can only guess this might start some panic buying again!

If everyone gets out and blocks their local streets with cars then yes this might have an effect.

I'd suggest this needs to be posted on places like moneysaving expert and other forums that normal people read rather than just car lovers.

What's the point in doing it on a Sunday

On a sunday!!! That wont cause any major disruption. Every one will still be in bed at 11am lol

I agree, the government doesnt get flustered by these protests.:thumbdwn:

Should do what they do in the rest of Europe, strike! Truckers striking in Spain at moment due to fuel costs and I bet things will be done.

This country should have a National strike, EVERYBODY who works, just get up and strike. And stay on strike until things improve and the government listens.

We want lower fuel taxes, better roads, less immigrants, better health service and a better deal for the hammered down motorist.

Ranting over, now im going to do my breathing exercises....;)

i can see their point, everyone should be off work. but then it doesnt cause the mayhem that a monday morning protest would.

If big business said to our gvt fix it because we are losing money due to nobody coming in they would.

Why? Well because they pay all the government back handers.

Having Googled the date, it seems like it's the web forum version of a chain letter!

As has been said before, WTF is the point of doing it ON A SUNDAY MORNING?! The point of a strike is the withdrawal of labour and/or the picketing of businesses. Seeing how it'll only be the retail and leisure industries that are open on a Sunday (i.e. exactly the businesses that will be hit hardest by the reduction in disposable income that increased fuel prices have caused), it's counter-productive at best, or downright imbecilic at worst! Honest to God! I can understand picketing petrol stations and oil refineries, but if you want to make the other people responsible for the price hikes (stock traders) feel your pain, at least do it a. when they're working (i.e. weekdays) and b. where they're working (i.e. the City, not provincial town centres!)

The only thing this'll achieve is a boost in the ratings for BBC and ITV's coverage of the European Championships IMO. Maybe it's a conspiracy, 'cos no bugger can be arsed to watch it otherwise... :rubchin:

If a million people on the streets didn't stop them invading Iraq there isn't much other than a revolution followed by some public executions that'll make much difference.

Just f**king block off the square mile and docklands so the merchant bankers can't drive their big cars bought on big bonuses into the city and you're onto a winner.

Just make sure it's done far enough inside of the congestion zone they have to pay the charge.

I still want to know why people think wasting fuel and blocking the traffic in this country will bring down the cost of fuel.

Me no understand

Thats the best idea I've heard in a long time.:thumbup::thumbup:

I worked in London when they started the congestion charge and the 1st week there was certainly a noticable drop in cars on the road but then it went back to normal.

I think a big blockade of London when the government are trying to move round will be the only way they will notice the protest's as they will get caught up in them. I know it's largely/mainly the fuel companies putting up the price but it would be nice to see the government recognise that the British Public and British Businesses are being affected by rising costs and would be good to see then try to help us in some way.

Octygone I agree with you all this stuff people are doing with the best intention, It dosent hurt Gordon Brown he couldnt give a toss about anyone and as for the oil companies I dont see what effect it has on them, I wish someone could come up with a solution other than stopping at home for a couple of weeks I mean everybody to stop driving and buying fuel. Not realisticlly possible I know cause people have so many reasons to have to go out and use their vehicles, Better idea maybe find an alternative fuel that would put oil out of use ever,

Every time there is a strike or a protest though have you noticed how the petrol companies sneak the price up by a penny or 2 as they know there will be panic buying. hmmmmm who are the muppets???

I noticed the other day as soon as the news was out Shell were going to go on strike, Tesco locally was grid locked that is what the oil companies know will happen so effectively if we all do that then the strike is fruitless, I read somewhere if we were all stop buying shell products or any other major fuel supplier for a while it would force the prices down, or force theirs down as they would still have to remain open for business but they would lose out on all the other stuff they sell like newspapers sweets fags Maybe an idea.

No one will bother expecting everyone else to attend, and the media will make a big thing about how much we really care about high fuel costs.

And a Sunday? FFS. Why not do it a 3am as well?

half the problem of the fuel prices going up is the city playing games with it, they have moved from gold and property to crude oil. however reading in one of the papers today they saying those in the city with stocks in oil at the end of august will be having a nasty shock as the price drops due to lack of demand from america (driving season will be over) and therefore the prices should start to drop by then.

Exactly!

I know: let's all make unnecessary journeys in our cars, thus burning fuel we wouldn't otherwise use, and making us all need to refuel sooner!?!?! F^&*tards!

well i was down to red yesterday, went to my local shell, only two other cars on the forcourt and got 51 litres of fuel for around £30 (vpower) was well chuffed, oh forgot, i had vouchers of £26 to use too.

Great.

It will cause prices to rise again rather than fall!

I've always thought the idea that goes around about boycotting a certain brand of oil company for a certain amount of time, then move on to the next (You know the one?) would be great but difficult to co-ordinate. To say the least!

Hurting the big companies financially might cause them to have words with the government, who might actually take note! OK, I know us mere private consumers would hardly make a scratch in their bottom line, never mind a dent!

Because someone on the internet said so , so it must be true

The ONLY way to bring prices down is for everyone to use LESS fuel ........the lower the demand the lower the price....simple

If people want to protest at the price then do it some where will it will do some good , but as neither Britain or it's government has had any thing to do with the price rises I fail to see what protesting here will do
