Engine stalling

Featured Replies

I have purchased a new Octavia II 1.9 TDI manual.

It has a problem with stalling when the car is at low speed.... maybe going over a bump in 2nd gear & when taking off slowly after braking.

The dealer says it's the case with all cars because the turbo kicks in only above 1500 rpm.

I wonder if anybody else is facing a similar problem & if any remedy is available.

It can be embarassing but I too had this 'problem' earlier this year too having moved from petrol to an oil burning Octy II.

You just need to adjust your driving style and give the right pedal a little more wellie to maintain the revs.

Yeah, it's common.

Very common on the PD-engineed Galaxy's, too

Yeah me too, changed from petrol to diesel and still do it occasionally but agree more revs

 Iam the opposite way round. The Octy petrol is too quiet so i stall that but not my TDi.

You say its new, the engine will be very tight and will stall if not enough revs are used. Once the miles pile on, it will slacken off and you can use less revs.

Absolutely right! When I picked up my new 08 1.9 octy, replacing an 06 one, the first few pull aways resulted in me stalling the thing. Now after 1600 odd miles, I haven't stalled it for over two weeks!

I nearly did that when test driving mine and have done once since. Mentioned it to the salesman at the time 'can see why some people have stalled these' I got 'you have to try hard to stall a diesel' with a disapproving tone. Never driven his own cars then.
