Spark plug question

I changed the plugs the other day and have just been looking at them now.

I'm just wondering why is it that first one has what appears to be oil round it's thread. And why does the last one look a bit cooked/coked round the ceramic bit.

Any ideas.......I ain't that bothered more curious than anything :)

the first plug does not look like the crush washer has sealead 100% and shows signs of leakage the last plug might of been breaking down or do you know if it was not changed when the last spark plug set change occured it might be older than others.

bazaa :)

First up its very unusual for all the spark plugs to come out looking the same. Cylinders dont all run the same fueling due to the inlet manifold design. Cylinder 1 for example gets more air due to that being the end that the throttle body is on (on the Octy anyhow).

Oil on the thread is more than likely a seeping cam cover gasket and when you take the plug out upwards th oil runs down the thread and onto the plug.

One of them was a little loose when I undid them :o Not sure which one though, When I last did them I never had a torque wrench. I did this time though ;)

It's quite weird using a torque wrench because of the leverage it gives, kinda feels as though your doing whatever up too tight.

Do the coil packs have boots like HT leads used to? I've seen plugs like No4 before, and it was usually a short or slightly split boot.
