Bought this from Halfords, makes the sound so much better with the standard speaker setup.

looks nice can you connect it to a Ipod?

Very nice

Not bad, know what you mean about sounding better with the standard speakers though

Its got USB, SD card and MP3cd compatibility.

It does support iPod, the connector is £25 on the net.

Just wanted mp3 in my car, got a 4gb pin.

With an aftermarket stereo the speakers produce a better sound.

USB.

Definately the way forward.

Had one for about a year now and don't know how I managed before!

(nice stereo by the way:)

You may be able to run a portable hard disk on it (although these stereos can be fussy which ones they power up). But with flash memory drives getting the sizes and prices they are these days they're probably the best and easiest option anyway.

I'm running a small 3.5 GB hard drive with no worries at the moment, but that only requires a small amount of power. Also looking at getting a bigger one, but thanks for the heads up.

I am pretty convinced that you can run the older iRiver hard disk players (20GB and 40GB) from this type of interface. There are probably other players you could use too....but I know this appears just like a removable usb flash drive...i plugs OK into my xbox 360 for example, also into SWMBO's blue&me car stereo

...reason is power is not via USB. It has internal battery and charged via 9v DC adapter. Plenty of power for an average journey

you can only get these 2nd hand now - look for iriver H120 and H140 on ebay. They are very good players and still go for quite a bit of cash.

For example I just found these

Iriver 40GB MP3 Player with FM Tuner H140 iHP-140 on eBay, also, MP3 Players, Consumer Electronics (end time 22-Jun-08 21:04:28 BST)

Would an external USB harddrive in an enclosure work?

Just to shortly describe my experience of using a hard disk with a Pioneer p7900UB USB stereo. Bought a freecom toughdrive pro 2.5" 160gb. Found it worked perfectly plugged in directly to the stereo, but didn't work at all using any USB extension cable (the cable from the stereo itself is only about 8cm long). I managed to get it to work patchily with a USB extension cable by adding a Nokia cig lighter charger as an additional power source. Eventually found the ideal solution for me was to use a very short extension cable (probably 10cm long) that was supplied with a bluetooth USB dongle. Works perfectly all the time and have enough cable to sit it just above the stereo, underneath the ashtray hidden out of view.

Due to limitations of the stereo though I think I can only utilise about 80gb.

There's some discussion of hard disk compatibility with specific stereos in this forum Talk Audio Forums - Powered by vBulletin

Nothing beats having a hard disk cram packed full of gigs of MP3's, the only problem really is navigation on the small screen - but I guess as technology improves this will get better too.

You can probably plug an ipod into the USB port too - it worked on a friends sony headunit - only thing is because of the file/folder structure on the ipod the tracks will play randomly... bit like their shuffle really!

Yup! Tried that with my old stereo that had a USB port on it and they played randomly and you couldn't access playlists or anything... but it worked to an extent!

Think for the sake of the £25 for the connector if you already have an iPod seems worth it to me!

p.s. can't see images so what stereo is it?

I just wanted MP3 in my car and with 700MB on a disc, 4GB memory card and a 3.5GB hard drive, its sorted me out.

I have an iPod, but don't use in in the car that much.

I can see the pictures now! Looks really nice!

Makes a big difference i think being able to have loads of music on tap in your car without having to swap cd's round and also being able to change or add the odd song without having to burn a new cd...
