MFD2 radio/antenna problem

Featured Replies

Hi!

I replaced my Octavia 2 RS Stream mp3 player to a MFD2 (nexus) navigation system and everthing works fine except the radio. Stream radio has only one radio signal input and mfd2 has 2 antenna connectors. How do I get the radio work? with on dashboar fm antenna ? What kind of antenna has a skoda when it comes from factory with the nexus? now vag com says "antenna circuit open" when connected to mfd2.

Any good ideas?

If you have installed a Skoda Nexus then as far as I am aware there is only one antenna connector. It should use the existing antenna fitted to your car and used ith your stream.

See you never know when things will be useful.

In the following picture you should be using the white connection for the radio aerial and the blue one for the GPS. The yellow one is not used.

The white and yellow sockets have different shapes, only FAKRA radio antenna connectors can connect to the white socket. The yellow socket is for television (video) input.

How old is your car?

I have just replaced my Stream MP3 with an MFD2 and noticed dire radio reception.

The car is only a year old, but I only ever listened to iPod or CD changer on Stream MP3 unit.

Only checked out radio as part of MFD2 install, plus it has some nice radio features and most importantly for me the radio receives the TMC dynamic re-route information.

I thought I had broken my radio aerial, but a quick continuity test by the Skoda dealer showed the bee-sting aerial base amplifier was dead.

Apparently this was quite common for a batch of aerials.

So, yesterday they fitted a nice new one under warranty and gave my car a wash and hoover :D

Now I can receive about 18 FM stations according to the station list page. Half of them I have never heard of or are based 60/70 miles or two counties away!

So it seems to be quite sensitive now.

Hi,

Thanks for the replys!

So you are saying that antenna shouldnt be connected like this:

vwNavi - View Single Post - RNS 510 in a Cross-Touran

doesnt mfd2 have 2x fm tuners and also needs two antennas? Radio works ok with the original stream mp3 player but the reception is poor with mfd2 and it also gives fault code.

I also tried with a sharkfin antenna but with that it didnt work at all.

That is an RNS510 and not an MFD2 - Different units.

MFD2 has single tuner.

What fault code do you have?

Yes...in the link they changed from MFD2 to RNS510 , and MFD2 was connectecd with two antennas and RNS510 is also with two antennas (double fakra).

According to parts catalog (ETKA) there should be somekind of diversity antenna. But should it work with only one antenna connected?

Do you have your MFD2? If so is it Skoda or VW?

Yes i have it. Skoda original.

and what is the fault code you see?

I have two FAKRA aerial-connectors on my Audience and both are in use.

If somebody knows why please let me know.

It looks this:

If you have a recent Octi (from modellyear 08 onwards), you have an Audience with twin tuner.

One arial is on the roof and the other one in one of the rear sidewindows (if estate) or in the rearwindow (if hatch).

Yes, with mfd2 the other antenna should be connected to sidewindow antenna. But I got the radio working fine now with the original gps antenna, maybe my original antenna was broken or something...

But now my problem is multimedia adapter +dvd to mfd2. When I connect it and choose from aux a/v the screen is black when adapter is connected. Audio is ok but screen is black. Screen is black if i choose radio or anything until i unplug multimedia adapter from mfd. Any ideas?

I also stuggled with the radio reception on my 06 Octy with MFD2. I now got it changed to a Columbus (RNS-510) for free by the dealer. That is a lot better :-)
