falken 512's

Featured Replies

just bought two of these.... were going on the rear, but wasn't very happy with the performance of those wierd "neuton nt5000's" I bought, so put them on the back, and the new falkens on the front...

wweeeellllll so far, they are PANTS compaired to the neutons! jeez..... hope they just need a few hundred miles more to 'wear in'...... :thumbdwn:

alot of people have used these tyres, and rate them as 'fine' .......

anyone else found them poor?

Rob: I know you were gonna get them on those new alloys on the primera, and they gave you the new one that replaces the 512, (9--- something?)

how are they?

Currently have a set of Falken 452's on the fronts (not sure how they compare to the 512's though!) and must admit they've dissapointed me despite the rave reviews they got :( Wear is particularly bad as tread is dissapearing at an alarming rate :thumbdwn:

You would expect good grip with a soft compound

I had the ZE512's and after trying other tires there not the best but there cheap,

They also dont seem to last very long

They seem fine in the dry but their wet grip is poor. It's a little akward for me to compare as these are new wheels and the previous (narrow) wheels and rubbish, worn out tyres don't give a good basis for comparison, but it doesn't feel like the chassis that's limited wet grip, but rather the tyres.

512's are total rubbish :thumbdwn:

I now have 452's which are so far so good even in the wet

bugger :( well, at least they were cheap ........

As above really alright in the dry, bordering on dangerous in the wet. I'm just killing off a set on the front which I switched with the toyos that were there as the 512's on the back were all over the shop when it's wet.

I ran Falken 512 on my Ex Furbie Vrs........Absolute Fabulous in the Dry and fantastic in the Absolute Wet, and I mean wet.............Anything else, Dark cloud, fog, dampness, not very good weather forcast, Might rain in a week, STAY IN. DO NOT VENTURE OUT!!!!!!.........:)

Yeah same here, im going for goodyear gsd3 next time.

I have had the 452 and 512 on my car and I thought they were not great, particularly in the wet as mentioned above. I now have the 912's on the rear and they seem a bit better but my 512's are getting low on the front so will need changing soon. I may put 912's on the front as well unless someone has a decent alternative suggestion?

Eagle F1's or Uniroyal Rainsport 2's, both a lot dearer thogh /\

Uniroyal Rainsport [ Rainmasters ].........Best thing since sliced bread..........

Got 512's on the front, 912's on the back.

previously had 512's all round. They're not too bad, when you consider how much they cost. I've found they last for around 15k with normal driving, I'd imagine they would just disintegrate if driven hard.

912's have better grip in the wet, but not quite so good in the dry. They don't seem too keen on rapid cornering either. However, for just under £100 a pair they're useable. I've only had them on for 2k, but no apparent wear yet.

thanks for the reply's.. it was starting to rain today, when they started to worry me... :( greasy.... lets hope its dry for the camping meet ;)

edit: £50 each though... cheap, and considering my car is driven around at 30 mph most of the time, not too bad, when I can afford to spend it will be bridgestone potenza re050a's... best tyre I've ever experienced... (were OE on my car...)

Hi Dave,

Had the 452's myself and a friend ran the 512 on the back of her MK III golf.

They are not as grippy as the 452, but as per the 452 need a good few miles in the dry to wear off the release compound. If it really bugs you light up the front tyres a few times.

I'm guessing you're currently slipping all over the place and able to spin the tyres without trying at the moment.

For an all season tyre the new 900 series tyre from Falken is supposed to be ok, but speak to Rob as he just got them on his primera.

ok... a bit more experimenting, after a few hundred miles more (dry to slightly damp roads...) they are improving, but I figured out why they seem so bad, its the breakaway point, they don't have any progressive feel, they just grip, then let go like someone's taken your wheel off..... without the ESP I'd be afraid to push them at all :(

well I'll give it a bit longer, and a bit more experimenting (may try some different pressures...) and report back ...

Still not impressed here. Did a drive over the C&F earlier and as soon as you hit a damp patch, whoosh, they were off. :( Not good.

Hmm think I'll stick to another set of 452 for my replacement tyres then if they come before the middle of autumn.
