Dreaded clutch slip

Featured Replies

Hi

Unfortunately the clutch has started slipping on my Revo'd Fabia VRS. I've been doing a bit of digging around and CG Motorsport seem to have a good rep for uprated clutches.

I've spotted this one ebay from then which specifies it is for a Mk4 GOLF ASZ. Can anyone just confirm that it will fit my car?

VW GOLF Mk4 1.9 TDi CG MOTORSPORT 5 PADDLE CLUTCH 410 on eBay, also Engine Tuning Parts, Performance Tuning Parts, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 16-Jul-08 18:18:16 BST)

Cheers

Andy

Should fit but dont quote me on it.

Its 240mm which is the right size

Have you had a look at Sachs?

Yeah I've considered the sachs, but am on a limited budget. These guys seem to have a good write up on the mk4 forums.

If you can get someone to confirm it fits, then go for it buddy, im also trying to do things differently rather than the norm.

;)

Thanks mate. I'm sure somebody will be able to confirm it. Looking at vwspares.co.uk, the standard clutch for both cars has the same part number.

someone hurry up and confirm this i want one.....

I've checked the sachs site and the part number is the same for both on there as well

**Update**

I've spoken to CG Motorsport today and ordered a clutch which should be well capable of coping with my remap and alot more.

The cost - £334 for a cerametallic 5 paddle clutch, release bearing/slave cylinder and delivery. They were very helpful, even if it did take me a few goes to get hold of someone.

These clutches seem to have a good write up and apparently are not too harsh for everyday driving.

will you do a write up after Andy, letting us know what its like?

Not a bad price that.

I'll be replacing mine soon, but just going to opt for a standard item.

How much cheaper is this than the sachs?

at this price and the sachs price you'd be mad to go for an OEM clutch

Not really.

I can get an oem for £100.

That'll do me fine. :)

Clutch has arrived today as promised. Strangely enough the parts are all Sachs! Hope to get it fitted over the next 10 days or so.

get some pics up,

Hmmmmm, theres something not right about this clutch.

The parts are probably sach as they are more than likely oem sach parts that have been re-manufactured to cope with extra torque.

Id imagine the clutch to be quite harsh as from the pictures it looks like a metallic plate paddle clutch with no damped centre.

It's not actually the clutch that I was initially looking at on ebay, this one has a sprung centre. I'll post some pics later on today.

Latest Update

Clutch now fitted. First impressions are very good. The pedal is no heavier than the oem unit and the operation is in no way harsh. When pulling away in first gear, the best way I can describe the bite is, a little courser than the oem. However it is perfectly driveable in traffic just a little different. If you had never driven the car with the standard clutch, you wouldn't think it had been replaced with a perfomance paddle item.

I have only covered about 100 miles since it was changed. I'm desperately trying not to give it too much stick until it's run in. When totally run in, I'll post again.

Sounds a good deal then dude

Final Update

The clutch has been in now for about 1000 miles, and I am still very impressed by the performance and feel. It has a nice crisp bite when progressing through the gears, but still very driveable in traffic. So to anyone one experiencing the 'dreaded clutch slip' this is definitly a route worth considering.
