couple of questions before "buying" tdi vrs

Featured Replies

Hello everybody,

Looks like after a years pause I'll be getting back on the skodas. Sold my furby vrs about a year back.. Well as things turn out, I'm now getting a company car and am considering octy vrs cr tdi with dsg. Too bad there's no place to try the new cr diesel even with manual gearbox..

Been thinking about this over the weekend and there's one more "big" question..

Given the choice, would you go for a diesel with dsg or the 2.0 tfsi unit with manual? I reckon I'll go test the petrol unit as well. It doesn't cost me a dime more to drive the petrol one, so this all comes down to which is better to drive.

So, good ppl of briskodaland - what's the verdict: petrol or diesel w/dsg?

Anyway, a couple of questions:

1) Has anyone in here had a change to drive the new cr powered vrs? In either dsg or manual form..

2) Maxi-dot.. I'm definately getting it. But how do you actually use it without the mfsw? I was too busy on other thing when taking the "old" pd version for spin that I forgot to check this out.

3) Has anyone specced their car with SunSafe laminated side windows?

4) How is the audience head unit? Any pics of it available? I'll be getting at least sound system, but am considering the audience head unit as well.

5) If anyone here drives on similar winter conditions that I face in Finland, could you comment on:

a) How is the heating, is it sufficient or do you have auxiliary heating? I had in my furby...

B) Do you run on spiked winter tyres on non-spiked ones? Stealer was recommending not to use spiked tyres as they won't last..

6) I'm considering getting the car in white. How much of a pig is it to keep clean? My furby was in black magic and certainly was..

Appreciate all the info you can give. Thanks in advance

Hi Juha

The CRDs are just starting to come to the dealers in Germany. And the first ones should be delivered by now.

All I read up to now, is that the engine is much more subtile as the tdipd is (who wonders?).

Maxi-Dot is controlled by the knobs on the right (wiper) stalk.

I drive SunSafe laminated glas and am very satisfied with it. Especially in summer when the sun is heating up the interior. If you compare it directly with a car without SunSafe, you will immediately feel the difference. It is not that it is 15° cooler, but the "sting" is out of the heat of the sun (if you know what I mean).

It also keeps a little roadnoise out and will keep the interior warmer in winter.

Personally I would recommend it to everyone.

One downside, any aftermarket navigationsystem with inboard antenne will have worse reception because of the SunSafe.

I am not familliar with the audience, all I know are the different MFD² and RNS systems.

What I do know, soundquality from the headunit is very important. The RNS sound FAR better than the Nexus I had first. (MFD²-DVD is somewhere in the middle, a lot better than the Nexus but a little worse than the RNS).

Havent heard the soundsystem yet, but with the RNS as headunit the system already sound very good for an oem system!

Heating was sufficient up to now. It just takes a little, especially in Finnland, an auxillary heater could help. Here it wasnt that cold yet, since I drive my Octi. But in Switzerland it was a little colder. Havent heard any complaints of the wife yet.

Do have heated seats, front and rear. They do make a difference in feeling comfy in winter!

Spikes are forbidden in my country.

Grts

Mike

Some Audi TT CR TDi 2.0 (172PS) 125KW - similar engine IIRC
