Octavia 1 Towing Electrics Problem

Featured Replies

Hello I have just had a tow bar fitted to my Octavia '02 but when I went to tow the caravan I found that the car engine would not turn off when the 12S lead was connected. I had to drive without the connection.

Has anyone else had this problem - I assume that it will be a problem with how the tow bar has been wired and not a caravan problem. The caravan is a 2007 model with a motor mover added.

I am taking the car back to the company that fitted the tow bar tomorrow but I thought a bit of extra knowledge would help !

can you find someone else with a trailer or light board so you can check the wiring? At worse case, get the pin out from the internet and check it with a multimeter. My connector block was wired up incorrectly when I fitted my towbar, this resulting in a flashing right brakelight instead of the indicator. Initially I thought it was my wiring that was wrong, but it was the towbar socket at fault.

That said, I am not sure the 12S connection is?

The 12s has the Battery charge (ign sw) and the fridge power (also ign sw) permanent battery positive, as well as the reversing light going through it, there was a change of fridge earth pin allocation from 1999 as well as changes inside the caravan (fridge cuts in off battery charge wire when battery volts are high eg engine running) a good auto electrician should sort it. cheers - Stuart.
