Custom Over Generic Maps

Featured Replies

Just wondering if theres much to gain from spending the extra on a custom map when the car is pretty much standard?

APS have mapped mine but having had it RR'd im not overly happy with the torque and i know there maybe an issue with my throttle body not realigning but i really cant see that causing a drop in torque when been driven.

just wondering on your thoughts?

I think you'll always get a bit extra from a custom map as every engine is different. Obviously the more modifications done the bigger the gains from a custom map but if your near standard I think I'd leave it. I've been in a members Red Vrs from Briskoda with a generic map and was very impressed with its pull.

It depends on where you get it done ;)

I had a Jabba custom map and was no happy with it but now I have the IP map and I'm happy.

If you have turbo back/downpipe/induction kit/tip/fluffy dice then yes it's worth getting a custom map done!

hmmm? ive got the full milltek wih downpipe cat , forge fmic and induction ,at the mo 225 and 237lbs

nice smooth, but do you think a custom map would be worth it?

Well mines running similar spec mate. Putting out 250 BHP and 256 lb ft (I think - its quoted as 370Nm)

Many will put this down to the Jabba rollers reading high so its impossible to say if mine is any better or worse than yours. I would have thought with your spec the generic map mustn't be perfect but the figures are respectable and any gains would be very slight if any at all.

looking at your graph - its a bit blury but does the drag reed 55 BHP with a wheel HP of 170?!

The Octy tends to have a drag in the region of 25 BHP giving me a wheel HP of 225 BHP which at the end of the day is what the rollers are actually measuring and the engine output calculated by then measuring the drag on dyno spool down. I'd question your results. Did you have 2 flat tyres and your brakes stuck on by any chance? Thats the kind of loss i'd expect from a 4WD.

they did say it seemed alot of drag? how i could look into that? that was with the 18s? would that make any odds? i have been suspicious of that? hmmm?

I must admit, I've noticed a huge increase in responsiveness and torque since having a pipercross air filter and my forge dv.

Whether my original DV was faulty and not holdin gboost is another question all together!!

Im soon to be fitting a new exhaust aswell so after that and a TIP I'll see what the rolling road says.

Im currently running a custom code phase 1 map and must admit that the car pulls like a train now.

Well, if people like Dave Walker say that they think Jabba's rollers read high, you tend to listen.

Very odd, there should be more torque available at all revs, a lot more than before too. Im not sure what to suggest but it certainly shouldnt be a trait!

I have my Superpro bush in now too, John - Muchos better!

Good good, less wheel hop now getting them "many horses powers" down. :D

Yeah, they're cantering along nicely now!

You can answer that question by yourself if you tell us your intercooler temperatures, EGT's, boost levels and % open time on your injectors. If all those are getting maxed out, no trying to turn the boost up more isn't going to be plesent for the engine. If you egt is low, boost level modest and intake temp (intercooler temp) still low and your injectors have a bit mroe to give, then yes you can get more power.

If you're on stock injectors and turbo, then those rather than temperatures will probably be the limitting factors.
