Rust on part in engine compartment

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I originally posted this in the intro section and was suggested I repost here.

I have a Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI and have noticed that I am getting some rust on

one of the parts in the engine compartment. i don't know the name of the

part, but it pictured here (the one with the red circle around it):

(This isn't a photo of my engine just one I found on the web and drew the circle around)

It has a concave top and rust has started to form there, there appears a small amount

of fine (clean) oil collecting in the concave top of it.

Can anyone tell me what the part is? Is it part of the turbo? Maybe an oil filter for the turbo?

My car is still under manufacturers warranty, would this sort of corrosion be covered?

Thanks,

Jason.

Hi and welcome.

I think you will find the part you have circled is the fuel filter housing.

It is the fuel filter housing.

They all do that sir!

My dealer refused to exchange the part under warranty :thumbdwn: so I just swamped the recessed cover with waxoyl.

Erm try kurust as it will turn it all bluey black, but it's just a fuel filter housing.

I wouldn't worry about.

Mine has done exactly the same.

Thanks for the responses, I will try the products you mentioned. I guess the light oil that has collected in teh concave is actually diesel then. I presume this would have happened when the fuel filter was changed, is this likely?

Thanks again,

Jason.

My 06 Octy did this, and it didn't raise a hair with the garage when mentioned to them. It had also begun to pit with the salt thrown up into the engine bay over the last 2 winters.

I notice that my new 08 Octy has a different (shiner) finish to this part; maybe it has been plated.......?

Are you sure that the liquid isn't just water (either rain or washing)? I get a spot of residual water in there following heavy rain or after washing the car. I s'pose it could dribble in when you lift the bonnet maybe.

Mine is like that too not a great cause for concern by the sounds of it.
