Engine warning light after service

Featured Replies

I just did a 90k km service on my MK1 Tdi (LHD in France), oil, filters etc, pretty basic stuff, but the engine management light has now come on and I don't understand why.

Everything seems OK and it's driving perfectly.

Any advice ?

I do have access to VAG-COM but not immediately.

You really need the vag-com, its proberbly something simple.

Phew, that was swift, must be raining in UK, 30deg in the shade here

I'm sure it is something simple as all was hunky dory before the service

I'll get hold of my VAG-COM cable, a pal has it and I can't get him on the phone at the moment.

PS: Never actually used VAG-COM before, any pointers where to look ?

I am not to familliar with it, but there is an option in the software to scan the controllers for fault codes.

Nice and sunny by the way, about 23c though, unlike when I went through bordeux a couple of weeks ago and it was raining.

One thing which may or may not be relevant:

The A/C wasn't working and when I dropped the drip tray I found the pulley, or rather the middle clutch part of it, just laying there, the central 8mm nut which should have held it on had done a runner, I replaced it and the A/C works fine now, could this be at all related I wonder ?

Local garage had pronounced the compressor U/S BTW and quoted around 800Euro for a replacement

Luckily I don't give in nor part with 800Euros so easily

Thanks mannyo, I'll just have to wait until I get my cable back. An hour or so in the pool with a cold beer seems called for.

Weather was abysmal until about a week ago but thankfully summer seems to have broken out now ;)

There's no need to rub our noses in it :o:)

So you won't want to know that we've now got the barbie going then I spose.............:P

Sorry, mustn't gloat :o

Are all the electrical connections around the battery/air filter correctly plugged in and sound? Is the MAF plugged in? During the service did you turn the ignition with something unplugged?

Problem solved !

I must have turned the ignition on with the MAF sensor unplugged (took it off to get better access to the air filter)

Now all I need to do is find out how to reset the flexible interval servicing :)

That can only be done with diagnostic equipment. 17 instruments, 10 adaptation, channel 02 and enter the value of 0.

DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS - HAS YOUR CAR AN ENGINE LIGHT ON ?

Hi All, I had a recurring problem with an engine management light coming on in a Fabia. It drove me nuts and cost me several hundred pounds over a 3 year period. The final straw of a huge bundle of them came when a garage told me I needed a new No1 oxygen sensor only 5 months and 1600 miles after they had fitted the same part. This was like Groundhog Day as garage after garage had fitted one sensor after another, charged me a fortune and then didn't want to know when the light came back on 2 days later. I rang the sensor manufacturer Bosch who told me that they suspected a wiring problem so I got in touch with Peter at the above link. He came over to my home, spent a couple of hours doing static and real time diagnostics, identified the fault as most likely being an oxidised connector, cleaned it and charged my £40 for everything. I cannot promise that he will sort your problem but he is a smashing bloke and has rung me several times since to see that the fault has not come back so I say, if you have a problem, he is well worth a call. Thanks for your time and good luck. My engine light drove me bonkers!
