Octy - Speakers to run from original head unit?

Featured Replies

Was talking to the guys who fitted my alarm today about upgrading my sound system. He reckoned the best thing to do first was try out a bass box with integrated amp first and see if I was happy with that. He basically said that upgrading the rest of the speakers on the current head unit would be pointless as it doesn't have much of an output. When I asked if I should change the head unit, he said that may be pointless too as the spaces where the speakers are are too small to fit anything decent.

I don't want to put speakers in the shelf, as I have a dog which will be going in the boot from time to time. What do you guys think...would it be best to try the bass box first, or are there better upgrades to be made?

Cheers

He's talking Horlicks...

Decent replacements are available, as many of us know ;)

Replace the HU & Speakers then look to a bass box & amp....unless you're the sea-front maxpower nts nts type that is :D

Definitely not...can't stand those people. Have always had pretty good stereo equipment in the my car...even the micra I just gave to SWMBO had a JVC h/u and 2 amps (sony and alpine) running a set of sony 6x9's and a 12" infinity sub.

I kills me when people go out and buy a 6000w amp for about

I changed mine for a Blaupunkt LosAngeles MP3 HU & Pioneer speakers all round.

It won't win any competitions, but it's a hell of a lot better than standard. :)

Sounds good...I don't need anything excessive, just something that sounds good with a nice range...I think you may need to show me your setup Geoff :)

What sort of price did you pay for that setup if you don't mind me asking?

Cheers

When I did mine, I fitted some component custom fit sony speakers in place of the factory ones. These were connected originally to the factory headunit, and improved the sound no end, 9 months later I wanted DAB so changed the headunit then.

HU was

I have to agree with Geoff about the Horlicks.

If you're not the Max Power type and just enjoy a quality sound then I suggest you buy a new H/U (mp3, so you don't miss the autochanger), new 2 way speakers for the front and rear, and disconnect the original tweeters.

And you've got a PM BTW.

Hi Manny,

Which ones? Did you put a replacement tweeter behind the factory tweeter grille?
