Felicia fuel problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and new to being a Skoda owner! I picked up my 1999 Felicia 1.3LXi only yesterday and already I've got a problem :(

Having been running fine, when I went out to start it an hour later it refused to start. The engine turned over but wouldn't fire. The mechanic from the recovery service traced the problem to the fuel system. He disconnected the fuel pipe to the engine and no petrol came out as the engine turned over. Then, at the second or third attempt, petrol started to flow. When he reconnected the pipe the engine started with no problem.

Has anybody had similar intermittent problems with the Felicia fuel system and do you have any suggestions where the problem could be?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks, Al

Fuel pump or fuel pump relay faulty

did you buy it from a garage ? if so take it back

Thanks, any ideas why you would get an intermittent fault?

I will get back to the dealer but he's not a Skoda specialist so the more help I can give him the quicker I'll have my car back!

It's an electrical fault; intermittent electrical faults are the bane of the lives of most mechanics and electronics techies.

I suspect you're right about it being electrical. I've had a suggestion of the filter or the feed pipe being dirty but surely that would cause it to run badly - not just fail to start? At the moment it seems to be an all or nothing problem - runs fine or won't start.

I don't suppose you have any suggestions as to where the problem might be? I was hoping someone had had the same problem and had a fix (I'm an optimist!).

There's a grey relay behind the ECU under a plastic cover with 3 fuses. I'd try changing that first.

Other than that there are still a variety of other possibilities, but you'd probably be best getting an auto-electrician to look at it.
