Spark plug recomendations for a 1.4 16v

Featured Replies

1.4 16v AUB code.

I was thinking of replacing the plugs and HT leads myself. I've normally used the Bosch Super 4 plugs in previous cars, but I'm sure that I've read that VW recommend BERU spark plugs in VAG cars. There is a model from BERU called Ultra-X which is also a quadruple electrode jobby and is specifically recommended for the AUB engine. Others I've looked at are Brisk DX15LTC-1 (Czech) or NGK Iridium IX. Does anyone have any experience of these or preferences? I'm just hoping to improve fuel economy, starting and acceleration a little and to help with the rough idling problem endemic with the 1.4 16v engine.

Regarding HT leads, specific HT leads are also available from Beru but seemed to be expensive at around £40 for a set. Is there much merit in changing the HT leads from time to time - I think the current ones (bright red) are the originals that came with the car. On that note, the coil pack is also readily available (branded FEBI), is that worth doing at the same time?

Cheers for any advice.
