What documents should you expect from your dealer?

Featured Replies

Apologies if I've not posted this in the correct area.

Just got a year old Octi (my first) from a Skoda dealer with 4,500 on the clock which was to include a service.

The service book has been stamped but nothing has been ticked to say what has or has not been done / checked.

When the car is serviced should you not get a copy the workshop inspection record (or something similar) showing exactly what was checked and what if anything was replaced? I am especially concerned about the oil as dealer thinks (waiting for confirmation) it is on variable.

I also didnt get details of the vehicle status checks (prioe history, any outstanding finance and confirmation of true mileage etc)

I dont want to nit pick but kind of thinkin these things are important?

Thanks for any thoughts...

Im led to believe that this only an issue on a private sale. If you purchase from a dealer and the vehicle turns out to be not what it seams, then you can take legal action.

On a private sale, "Buyer Beware".

Its for this reason I will only buy from a dealer and never private.

Why did they service it in the first place, the car if on variable wasnt due one for around another 12 months.

My service book is the same, I do however have all the service invoices to show work completed.

Dont know! From what I've worked out this morning it looks like its set up for fixed 10k, yet the book is showing variable. Still think I should also be getting something to show what was done on it and the vehicle status check although Ray's point about private vs trade sale is valid.

For a fiver you can check it yourself on the RAC website plus check the MOT history if your car has one. Most dealers will just stamp the book and give you the invoice showing what has been done on the vehicle with some advisory notices.

There are some shrewd bargains outside the dealer network if you know what you're doing
