quick replies are welcome lol. im gussing i have to take the rubber cap off the inside? but have no idea how your meant to fit a hand into change the actual bulb. especially the side light.

Dave

I'm going to try using a pair of long nose pliers with 90 degree ends to remove the side light bulbs and install LED ones which i'm hoping are brighter.

The headlamp bulbs H7 are unusual in that you dont remove the wiring connector from the bulb housing.

You turn the housing and once its out, you pull the H7 bulb out. Its a bit like removing one of the indicator bulbs at the front of the car. If you do this first, you'll get an idea how to tackle the headlamp bulbs.

It's pretty straightforward. Twist (from memory) to the right (once you've got the rubber housings off). The only difficult bit is trying to remove the old bulbs from the wiring loom. Use a small screwdriver blade to try and lever the old bulb out. It's a bit fiddly but NO NEED to remove the battery.

got the head lamps done now but the sidelights are pretty much impossible! tried to get in with the pliers but cant get in enough. you ever had that rage feeling? lol. its like skoda have made the pastic tube about 3 cm's too big.

I may have to invest in some smaller long nose pliers!

if the fabia is anything like the octavia II, to change the bulbs requires removing the whole headlight from the car. The user manual should confirm what needs to be removed, look up headlight bulb replacement.

to qute the manual 'simply grip and twist the bulb'. looks like im going to have to get the full unit out of the car, however this also looks like a big job. really is annoying me lol.

For the octavia, the removal involves undoing a small plastic nut and operating a lever and the light pops out.

ah right, well the actual light housing is too big to remove from the actual car. if that makes sence? it would need the side wind removing to take out me thinks. this is agrovating lol. dont wanna go down to skoda cos i cant be arsed paying about 30 quid to do this 'simple' job. if anyone is near wakey n fancies a free cuppa and a biscuit ;D haha

right sod it lol. going down to dm keith in leeds to see if they have any better ideas on how to change the buming things. never come across sidelights that were so awkward to change!!

right then ive been down to skoda. the mechanic told me that its pretty much impossible to get at the sidelights. even with pliars. so ive got it booked in for tomorrow. gonna cos me about 8 quid. plus i think that the guys will have to take the wings off to get the lights out. hehe rather them than me!

Dave

Did you get your sidelight bulbs changed?

If so, how did they do it?

I thought about removing the front bumper to withdraw the whole headlight but that also means jacking the front of the care to remove the front wheels so you can get to the third bolt on the headlight unit within the front wing, after removing the wheelarch liner.

find my thread blinded by the light, i explain in better detail in there. but longstory short; 44 quid to change 2 sidelights. that involved taking the whole wheel arch out!!

As a concerned prospective purchaser of a Mk2, I had a look at the 1.6 16v at the showroom yesterday. There is more access to the bulbs than on my Mk1 2.0i. In the handbook, it mentioned removing a charcoal filter on one side on some petrol models, but there were no obstructions at all on this petrol model. I think it is only diesels than have an access problem.

I was interested in the way one changes the rear bulbs. Normally, one does this directly from inside the boot, but on the Mk2 there is a screw that releases the light cluster and one changes a bulb from outside. This means the boot lining can be more rigid and resilient.

Finally done it!

I have replaced my sidelight bulbs in my Fabia for brighter LED ones which took about half an hour to do.

I know this post is useless without pics ... but ... this is how I think the dealers do it, one side at a time, with the sidelight rubber cap off already.

Bearing in mind I dont have a ramp which puts the car in the air which would be easier and much quicker.

1. Jack car up and remove one of the front wheels

2. Remove at least six of the torx screws nearest the front of the car, including two on the wheelarch lip

3. Pull wheelarch liner towards you from front bumper and slide your arm complete with some small long nosed pliers, up behind the headlight cluster

4. Pull sidelight bulb holder out of its place using a firm and confident tug (nota lot of force is required)

5. Remove arm and observe red marks on arm

6. Change bulb and replace in holder - you can do this while stood up at the front of the car

7. Put wheelarch liner back in place and replace torx screws

8. Replace wheel, securing with nuts

9. Once lowered move to do other side

Hope ths helps.

I live between Barnsley, Wakefield and Pontefract so if anyone does want them changing and is prepared to wait half an hour in exchange for a couple of bottles of Hobgoblin ale, I will do them for you.

Just PM me.
