Wheel coatings - Paint or Plastic coat?

Featured Replies

I'm considering getting my wheels re finished. They're in basically good condition with no kerbing, but the paint is getting thin on some of the spokes, and the insides are looking a bit tatty now.

The wheels are white, and will be staying white. What do people think is the better finish, paint or plastic coat... And why? I've heard that plastic coat is generally considered to be inferior to paint, although I have also been told that it's well suited to white wheels.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Cheers

Might be worth speaking to skudmissile - he has had his standard Fabia vRS wheels done in white.

I think they were powder coated.

Is that what you mean by painted, or do some places use a spray paint process?

Phil , pop into ROMAX UK (01642 619196) on Ross Road just off Portract Lane in Stockton , he does every type of finish / colour u can think of . I have had a few of my wheels re-furbished there and his work is A1 . Last time i used him it was around £50 per wheel (last year) He normally needs a few days notice , drop them off for 8am get them back tea time

That will be powder coated then.

Paint is better IMO as you can touch them up where as you cant with power coating.

Im currently doing the standard wheels that ive got at the moment.

Doing it the hard way with Nitromoores and then the old man is going to buy a sandblaster so that will finish them off
