Climatronic blower motor groaning noise

Featured Replies

Can anyone offer any advice on this.

When my climatronic works it is fine, (nice and cold can direct it where i want and adjust nicely)

The problem is theat the blower motor does not operate sometimes (seems to be mainly on hot days) if i leave it switched on it will usually spring to life- possibly caused by a bump in the road- with a groaning noise which will then disappear after 5-30 seconds, it's usually ok once it gets running.

I've known similar problems with domestic blower heaters where they screech into life after not being used for some time.

I've ran vag com which states there is a motor fault.

The question basically is can it be rpaired (remove motor clean etc.) or is it a new motor job, or is it a bit like the older Golf heater motors where there is a fix involving replacing a resistor.

Any help appreciated.

One on ebay at the mo might be cheaper option!!!

Just an idea no bids not sure about reserve

I have the full unit from a Octy VRS Mk 1 if that helps

Hi Rich

To be honest i'd seen your other thread, it's only the blower assembly i need, i was looking for a cheap fix rather than replacement (tightwad) if push comes to shove, how much for blower motor?

Regards

Frank

Frank, £20 plus postage, wouldn't like to think i was fitting one though, best leave yourself a day or two free to do the job! Yours sounds like a bearing problem?

I changed my V71 (fresh air/recirc flap motor) yesterday, and the fan was really easy and quick to remove. If only the codding V71 was!! what a nightmare!

glove box out, then foam cover off at one end under fan, two 6mm bolts holding fan in housing, unplug the wiring, then it just slides down and out. 15mins?

I'd pop it out and inspect it if I were you, might just have something stuck in it etc...

Sounds like dry bearings to me. If it's as easy to remove the whole assembly as Bodge says, why not take it out and lubricate the bearings then refit it?

Thanks for the advice

Bodge, you were quite right, 5 screws to remove glovebox, 2 screws to drop unit, the a couple more screws to release motor.

A few drops of 3 in 1 and all seems ok, we'll see how it develops.

Once again many thanks

Frank
