1.9TDI 90 Pops out of 1st Gear

Featured Replies

Took a test drive in a 54 plate Octavia II yesterday, the car got as far as 20metres rolling up to a speed hump. Came onto the overrun and popped out of 1st gear, nothing else happens in any other gear though. The car in question has well over 110k on the clock, but sounds and goes a treat(no obvious whining or crunching).

The only thing thats stopping me from buying this car is the gears popping out, the seller mentioned they'd have the problem rectified.

Its had a replacement clutch and flywheel, does this sound like a gearbox/engine mount?

Im guessing that the torque generated is enough to rock the engine/gearbox enough to pull the cable/shaft out of the gear.

Or is this a common problem?

Many Thanks In Advance

Out of curiosity, How much is the car??

Bump

it could be as simple as the linkages needing adjustment. its quiet possible that 1st was not completely engaged, hence why it jumped out.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

The car was doing it everytime you came onto the overrun in 1st gear.

The Octy II 1.9 is 105bhp, there was never a 90 in this mark, I think there was in the Octy I :)

15 more brake that you were unaware of :)

yup, all good then!

Probably more of a excuse for my dad to use it for towing now lol.

I seriously you don't need anymore, with all the torque it makes for a relaxing drive.

I use to have a Astra Coupe 2.0 Turbo, that was quick....but the torque didnt feel anywhere near as much as the tdi. Although there similar values.

Not picking the car up this weekend, the garage had the mounts changed and its still doing it albeit not as much.

So the box is going to be coming out.....should have it by next week now :(
