Car battery and tape/radio question

Featured Replies

I'm about to take the battery out of Skoda 1.4 W reg (2000) to get to the power assisted steering fluid tank. Will I need a pin code to get the tape/radio working again afterwards?

I have looked through the manuals I have and there are no instructions for it.

Thanks

It depends upon whether or not the code has been enabled on the radio. The instructions are in a separate audio manual, and sometimes the dealer will stick the radio code sticker in it. To disable the code function on the radio, you will need to enter the code.

The battery has been off my car a good few times and I've never needed to re enter the code , either the garage done it (but I have all the handbooks etc at home) or you do not need to do it. I had heard that the radio code is stored on the cars ECU, not the radio itsself.

Thanks guys. Some more questions if anyone can help:

I'm new to all this: what is an ECU?

I don't have a manual for the tape player: how do I find out if there's a code?

How do I get the code if it comes to worst?

And how much will it cost?!

Thanks

You should have the code on a sticker in the radio handbook.

Im afraid the code is usually stuck to the inside front cover of the handbook for the radio , but Im sure your local dealer will be able to find the code for you if you supply the chassis number , although they may charge you for it!

By the way - ECU = Electronic Control Unit , basically the computer 'brain' of your car.
