iTunes question

Featured Replies

Just spent almost two days loading all my CD's onto iTunes which is resident on my "C" drive. Now I would like to back up all my hard work onto my "D" drive. What's the easiest way to do this please? Please don't get too technical cos I'm a complete numpty when it comes to computers.

Also, would it be possible for any changes I make to my playlists, ie adding or deleting CD's, to be replicated on the second drive?

T.I.A.

Click on Start -> My Music.

Select the folder named iTunes and right click. Select 'copy'.

Now click on Start -> My Computer -> D. Right click and select 'paste'. This will copy all of the music on your C drive to your D drive.

:iagree:

you need to actually copy the itunes folder manually otherwise you will loose all you artwork and playlists...

using the back-up function in itunes only saves he music files and nothing else

for the main question just go into the my music folder on the C: drive, select the iTunes folder and then just copy over to the D: drive. For the secondary question, unless there is a way of making the D: drive acting like an ipod or as part of the main iTunes library the answer is no.

Thank you all, much appreciated, it's transfering as I speak (type)

Look under Itunes>edit>preferences>advanced

change your itunes folder location to the chosen/desired location.

Should give you an option asking if you want to consolodate your music to the new location ;)

Is the 'D' drive a partition of the main 'C' drive or is it on another HDD like mine?

I have, as I thought if the HDD dies, you will loose all the hard work anyway?

I have 4500 tracks on my computer but they are backed up onto a network drive so they are separate from the computer just incase of a disc failure.

My laptop has 2 HDD's but I read somewhere that they are in RAID, so if one dies, chances are I loose the info on the good one too?

How much do you have on your computer? if it's loads, I'd get a separate drive as a backup, just incase.
