Clutch pedal -a new problem?

Featured Replies

I read a lot on here about the clutch pedal in the Octavia getting stuck. However mine shattered while the pedal was down, conveniently in slow traffic in the fast lane of the M62. Or rather, the U shaped cage that depresses the acutator did. I've got a new pedal on the way however I am concerned that something else caused the initial damage.

Is it possible something else has failed, forcing the actuator back with such force against my foot that it broke the U? It didn't feel like it at the time, it just went "ping". I can't depress the actuator at all with my hand, though I'm not sure if that's just a leverage thing.

It's not that uncommon. I've seen 3 or 4 that have done this, a new pedal will sort it out.

The little metal tab that goes over the end of pedal that the m/s rod pushes onto usully breaks off, its only tack welded on. New pedal is a lot stronger.

My clutch pedal is a bit creaky, and ive sprayed all the moving bits with grease but its still creaky. On a quick inspection it looks fine, but wondered if this was the start of something worse?

Strange noises really annoy me!

How much was the new pedal just out of interest?

Cool, I should be fitting it tomorrow I let you know how I get on.

New pedal is about £25 from Skoda. That's just the pedal itself, not the full frame it sits in.

Fitted and sorted.

Or rather, almost.

How the hell do you get the tensioner back into position? I can't get the leverage to compress and spring and position it at the same time?

With the clutch pedal box out its just a case of having the pedal all the way down and popping it in from the top.

Ah, I couldn't get the box to come away from the foot well wall. I've go the nuts off and got it loose but it seemed intimately connected with the rod.

I'll try again in situ from the top.
