Climatronic Issue

Featured Replies

I have just purchased an Octavia vRS from a local independant dealer. The car was picked up for me by a relative and when I got in the car the climate control system could not cool the air below the ambient temperature. Naturally I took the car straight back to the dealer and he agreed that there was no air cooling and booked it in to be fixed. He told me that they had the system regassed before selling the car (its an 2003 car) and so it must have a gas leak which will be sorted.

Here is the issue, 2 days later, all of a sudden, the system seems to be able to cool the air. Its definitley cold but I am not sure if its as cold as it should be (does the climatronic system produce ice cold air when working properly or just cooler air than outside? - I know this is a subjective question!). Has anyone come across intermittent problems with the Climatronic system?

I suspect I will take it to the dealer next week, he will say 'oh, its working now' and send me on my way when there could be an issue lurking.

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks

Rich

The air should be fairly icy. I like to aim the vents at my hands when driving in hot weather and after a couple of mins I have to move the vents back again.

I'm sure you know this already but you have to have the AUTO button pressed for it to work. It's no good pressing the blue temp button when in ECON mode as it will stay at ambient.

:iagree: , and Samantha will be 6 in a couple of months, with no aircon work in the last 2.5 years.

:DHi, had a similar problem the other week, lift the bonnet, & start the engine, keeping hands & other things well out of the way, look into the engine bay on the o/s front of the engine, (between the inner wing & the block) you will see the aircon pump below the alternator, with the climatronic on (set to "AUTO") check if the clutch on the front of the pump is turning, if it isn't, then you may have an intermittant electrical problem like mine (it's been ok for the last couple of weeks & never did find out the cause, but I suspect it had something to do with the 2 wires on the top of the pump not making a good conection)

Try turning it off (set to "ECON") then on again to see if the clutch is trying to work (you should hear it clicking) or see it turning, it may be worth checking all the relavent fuses are making a good conection.

It could always be that it hadn't been used for a while as it was for sale & it has sorted itself out.:D

Hope this helps.
