My 1st Skoda!

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I've just recently taken delivery of a 53 plate TDI PD 130 eucalyptus green Octavia estate with just 29,000 miles on it & very pleased I am with it too.

It's my 1st Skoda but not my 1st VAG vehicle having owned a Scirocco, Golf tdi 90, SEAT Ibiza 1.3.... :turtle2:, SEAT toledo tdi 110 (just sold) and a VW T5 2.5tdi 130 campervan (also just sold:().

Appart from a bit of rain water getting in the rear nearside door, the nasty thin slippery steering wheel which I plan to replace and the slightly lo-fi stereo which will also need upgrading, it's so far so good & I'm averaging 51mpg, not quite as good as the toledo which managed 58mpg but a small price to pay for the extra grunt!

I'll be servicing it myself so will no doubt be dropping in here for tips & advise from time to time.

Cheers.

Welcome aboard! I also recently acquired my first Skoda a Fabia vRS and I cant tell you how satisfied I am with it despite nearly being 4 years old, its great!

All the best, Geord

welcome to briskoda

Welcome :)

Hiya. That's one of the pick of the bunch!

Is it the L&K trim?

Anyway, check out the Octy 1 forum for ideas about things like how/if you can improve the steering wheel and stereo.

Thanks for the welcomes. I wish it was the L&K, it's the Elegance & it included the cruise control & reversing sensors, but sadly not the £2000 sat nav :(

Off for a browse now in the Octavia section :)

The cheapest way to improve the feel of the steering wheel, particularly if you think it's too thin, is to fit a steering wheel glove, like I've done on my Elegance 110.

welcome along.

3 weeks & 1500 miles later & everything is still running well & it's averaging well over 50mpg.

Already made a few minor alterations to the car.

I sorted the stereo sound by fitting a new amp in the glovebox & fitting a set of JBL speakers but I keept the original head unit as I use this to run the VAG dension ipod cradle that I removed from my campervan. Sound is now so much better:cool:

I fitted a set of front mudflaps, & removed the shed load of compost & crap from behind the wheel arch linesrs while I was at it! The Octavia seems to have a very badly designed inlet with large gaps behind the bonnet that allows a lot of vegetation etc to get into the area beneath the windscreen & then gets washed away behind the wheel arch liner! :(

Fitted a set of Bosch retro-fit aerotwin wiper blades.

Also got a spare key supplied & programmed from my local Skoda dealer for a fairly reasonable £116 & they took just 15 minutes to programme the immobiliser & central locking.

Haven't sorted a leather steering wheel yet & not too keen on the idea of a wheel cover. I'll wait to see what comes up on ebay.

One minor issue, the fuel gauge reads full for the first 150 miles or so before starting to fall! Probably needs recalibrating but I'll live with it.
