Featured Replies

I've found a load here - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/DVD_RW_Drives.html but wondered which one? I want the writer to be able to back up my music and photo ollection in case my hard drive goes t!ts up.

I want to fit it into the PC tower and the PC is a Dell Dimension 2350.

Cheers

The NEC 2500 is nice, and does dual layer so you can burn a full 9Gb onto a DVD.

Before buying, drop ffelan an e-mail/PM and see if he can beat it... :)

I see why you want some advice, Steve! I could do with an external one to use with a PC which is due replacement soon, and with SWMBO's laptop. Suggestions please if such a bit of kit exists.

I got a BTC 8x +/- one which was

Denis - the Freecom external stuff is probably worth a look, I've been pleased with their stuff. Also I've used a Sony USB one which was good, though I believe it was quite pricey.

Q - BTC have released a dual layer one, not sure how the technology is different as to whether you could upgrade a non-dual layer one. Like you say though, it's quite a new technology at the moment!

Do like BTC stuff, their retail bundles with software and three colour bezels are excellent value for money...

The nec 2500 is single layer only but can be upgraded to 2510 spec to do dual layer with the right firmware.

If you aren't that fussed about dual layer then the Pioneer 107 is a better bet as it is less fussy about the media used , and produces disks that are happier in stand alone players.

Oh and don't order it from overclockers , but instead go to www.121cdr.co.uk as they are cheaper and have first class customer services. The pioneer for example is 50 quid inc vat Also if you join the buyers club they will do you delivery for 99p

I'll second 121cdr or blankdiscshop. Top rate service, and excellent prices. Bulkpak orange dvd-r discs are sooooo cheap too

But the 99p delivery service is on and off. Depends on how busy they are I guess. I bought the Pioneer 05 drive (4x dvd-r only) and am well happy with it. Old man has bought the A07 drive in external caddy with usb2 and firewire for about
