problems with internet access

Featured Replies

i don't know whether anybody else has had the same issues as me

Microsoft windows auto updated last night , restart computer , unable to access internet , it connects but wont access any webpages

rung Tiscali , they said it was issues with AVG 8 free and Zone alarm  tried to disable AVG, er no, no idea , in the end uninstalled it , turned off Zone alarm , now able to access t'internet , although without any virus protection at present

i'm running XP and internet explorer

should i uninstall the Microsoft updates that were loaded yesterday to see if that is the fault ?

I had that problem too last night I just switched the lot of and restarted it and it was ok not suggesting that is the solution though,

i deleted 2 of the windows updates from last night , KB951978 + KB951748 , and i can now access the internet with Zone alarm on , so it looks like it is a windows issue

i will see if i can update Zone alarm now also

Edit there were no updates available

This page on the ZoneAlarm site seems to offer one...

It's a Microsoft patch to a DNS vulnerability which ZoneAlarm hadn't caught up with - so more of a communications issue than a Windows one.

re-installed AVG8 free and i can still access the internet , so it looks like one of those Microsoft updates i uninstalled is causing the problem or the fact that they never told anybody about that DNS thingy
