This article in Autocar seems to have sparked a bit of a debate as to whether the new Fabia is based on the VAG PQ24 platform (current Fabia, Ibiza and Polo) or the new PQ25 platform (new Ibiza and forthcoming new Polo). Common sense and everything I have read about the new Fabia up to now suggests it's the PQ25, but Autocar's Industry Editor said the new Fabia is actually based on the PQ24 platform (see the blog section attached to the article). So which is it?

After been under one id say mk1.

Yep its based on the old Fabia platform. From what I understand the new Ibiza is the first one to use the new platform.

I have had alot of conflicting information with the New Fabia's platform. Iv'e seen reviews of the New Ibiza claiming that it's on the new chassis that the Audi A1 and the next Skoda Fabia will use,

However I am pretty sure the MKII 2007> Fabia (5J) is based on the New PQ25 platform shared with the New Ibiza, but even then I beleive the PQ25 is just a revision of the older A04 (or now PQ24 under the new scheme)

Thanks irfant. I did see that but had seen conflicting info elsewhere. I think that article is probably correct though.

Just read the Autocar test of the new Ibiza and it's reasonable to conclude that WHATEVER underpinnings the Ibiza uses, they aren't significantly better than the ones the Fabia uses, anyway. So no worries there.

:confused: Kind of doubt that! The Octy. is wider, it's rear axle is used on the Roomster as mentioned. If I recall correctly the PQ24 platform received donor parts from the pre PQ34(Octy.I/GolfIV) PQ33(GolfIII)...

That could be it, like i said i'll go with what Ross says.

I am fairly sure that the new Fabia is made on the PQ24 platform. The new Ibiza is the first to be based on the new PQ25 platform.

The Volkswagen Group A0 platform is a series of automobile platforms shared among superminis of various marques of the Volkswagen Group.

Under Volkswagen's revised platform naming system, the "A04" platform is now known as the PQ24 platform,[1] and what may have been called the A05 platform is officially the PQ25 platform. The new nomenclature is derived as follows:

P indicates a passenger car platform

Q (quer) indicates a transverse engine

2 indicates the platform size or class

5 indicates the generation

The Fabia was changed to PQ25 platform at the last revamp so the new engines’ and gearbox’s would fit.

Does the change in platform increase passenger space or ride/handling over the old one. I have a 58 reg and a 61 reg is on order so curious to any differences at all between the two platforms.

No, changes are limited to driveline, suspension and chassis legs etc.

25s can fit 2.0 CR engines in etc. 25 has also deleted consoles and box wishbones and using later steering rack and subframes, back end is still the same.

Electrical wise the latest cars have now done away with convenience ecu and merged it with central electrics and are now running full can diagnostics.

Will the lower control arms from the mk4 golf platform fit the fabia. I know the hubs are the same as the mk4 chassis
