Turbo noise at motorway speeds

Featured Replies

Tried the search and found nothing so i thought i'd post.

When doing 80+, i've noticed recently that the turbo whistles. Not the normal high pitched whistle as it spools up but a constant noise when i keep a constant pressure on the accelerator. It's lower pitched and it must be the turbo as the the noise disappears after a few seconds of no accelerator pressure.

Is this normal?

Drive slower then ;)

I forgot to mention that this was on my mates private road.

Doesn't sound right to me

My turbo sits around half a bar at 80+ (private roads) but I can't really hear it whistling, so your thing sounds a little odd to me. Air escaping somewhere, and i would not be surprised if it's from the vacuum system / boost pipework, not the turbo itself.

Actually, it's more of a whine than a whistle. Only really noticible on smooth tarmac private roads. On rougher surfaces the tyre noise drowns it out.

You need to monitor that.

I can check for codes nest tim I am over (Monday morning actually...;)

If its the turbo, could the vaines be getting stuck meaning that the turbo is still spooling when really it shouldnt be.

I'd be checking pipework for leaks, especially behind the offside headlamp.

My drivers side mirror whistles

Mine started to whine and the nut sheared off the compressor end and a new turbo followed. keep an eye on how bad it gets.
