Brake Judder - replacement discs?

Featured Replies

Experiencing brake judder when applying brakes at speed when loaded, also felt a slight 'pulsing' when stopping at traffic lights, think that this may be the dreaded warped discs. Car has done 25000 mls, I dont break hard or usually hold the car on the foot brake at lights etc, the car is going into the dealers soon for a diagnosis - has anybody any experience of this and getting the discs changed warranty? :finger:

I dont break hard

95% certain its pad deposit on the disc, If you can face it take the car out & really give the brakes some grief with several high speed to zero stops "OBVIOUSLY ON A CLEAR DUAL CARRIAGEWAY" or where its safe to do so & really nail it until the ABS is working overtime, it might just cure it

Also take a look at

for a more technical explanation

To add, if you are taking the car to the dealers & you have to pay then research the cost of some slightly better group N discs (identical to std discs but finished to a higher standard for group N racing), a few of the tuning companies who float around this site can give you a price, also try Ian Godney at Godspeed 01656 660899, you might find they are suprisingly close on price to "Skoda supplied discs" & a better product.

Also you will need new pads, if its warranty insist they are fitted as they might try not to!

Had the wheels off at the weekend, disc rotor looked spotless apart from the scale/rust build up around the edges which I removed, didnt make any difference though.

The scale/rust unfortunately makes no difference as its the bit the pads dont touch, as the article I gave you the link for says pad deposit is often un detectable to the naked eye.

We had a replacement set of Discs on Wendys Diesel Octy at about 10000 miles under warranty (& pads after I nagged), they started juddering again at about 17000 miles so I resorted to the "Give em some grief" treatment & it worked, car is now at about 45000 & still OK, I still give the brakes a work out from time to time

I had my front discs replaced under warranty when they started warping after the car sat for 3 days during the ice and snow in January. I'm also a 'steady braker'. The warranty covered the discs and labour, I paid for new pads - fair compromise.
