Tyre Pressures.

Featured Replies

Hi all. Can anybody enlighten me on this one? I have just replaced my tyres ( OEM Conti sport 2) with Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta, 225/40/18. They were fitted by a Vredestein dealer and when I asked them about the pressure they said to run them about 4psi more than the book says. Apparently Vredestein say this. Not had much time to see what they are like at that increased pressure but they feel a bit 'hard'. Anybody come across this one atall? Replies most appreciated.

There is a general consensus that the Octy vRS handles better with tyre pressures above the standard book, IIRC the best pressure seemed to be around 34 PSI. You've rememinded me, I need to check my front tyres as I've just had them changed and they probably need a bit more air in them.

Just bear in mind running too high will result in additional centre tyre wear, thats what happened mine :(

Mine have been fine. Checked my new tyres today and they are running at 34 PSI, which is about 4 PSI higher than book.

I had the same comment from my Vredestein suppliers (Mocom racing - who are Impreza/Evo specialists and ought to know what they are on about).

My set of Ultrac Sessantas are in 225/45 17 and IMHO they work best at around 2.35bar (34psi). I also run 225/40 18 Michelin Pilot Exalto 2s at the same pressure.

I've tried the 'book' pressures of 2.0/2.1bar and found the handling sloppy and if anything crashy over broken tarmac, and higher at 2.5bar when the handling was really sharp, particularly turn-in BUT at the expense of ride comfort; overall 2.35bar/34psi is the best balance all round.

Agreed; can't say too much more except my local tyre guys (used for 20 years +) inflate all their tyres with Nitrogen as opposed to compressed air. This minimises fluctuations in tyre pressures from atmospheric condition and heat build up when driving.

Valid point in general but no adverse tyre wear on my two sets used at 2.35bar covering 18,000 miles (so far).

Thanks Bahnstormer, I will check my tyres and re-set to 34psi. I think the dealer set them at 38 but I will have to check that one.

i have mine set at 2.4 but were on 2.35 front and 2.4 rear. there is a thread on here somewhere and the set up vrstu mentioned for his car seems to be good too!!
