Oil leaking out of intercooler pipe

Featured Replies

I have noticed recently that oil is leaking out of an intercooler pipe. Its the one (when facing the engine from front) on the left at the top from EGR to Intercooler. There is a join from the rubber hose to the plastic hose and this is where oil is coming out.Its had a new drive belt fitted before i had it possibly because oil has contaminated it.There is also oil on top of alternator and around the whole area there including top of radiator.Should there be that much oil coming out?

Its only done 20000 miles.Any help would be appreciated:thumbup:

Hey taxi how you doin?

Its strange isn,t it on here just like the Corsa C forum do you remember?

Looks like that if you haven,t got a VRS and are under 25 years old then your face doesn,t fit on here.Nobody replies to you unless you use the 3 letters "VRS" Clicky forum here mate.

About your car.I reckon its the seal gone there. They all have oil in though don,t they?

See ya around later mate:thumbup:

That's a bit harsh, especially when his post had only been there for two hours.

Personally I think this is possibly the friendliest most helpful forums that exists.

Up to the dealer with a question about a leaking EGR. I'd probably send them a picture too before you go up.

Hmmm Stormy steady now:rofl:

Its not actually leaking from EGR anywhere its oil in the intercooler pipes from the EGR and leaking out onto the engine in one spot above the alternator.Just wondering if normal or excessive at 20K miles?

At 20k I'd be asking the garage to give it a clean out.

You're bound to get a bit due to the nasty EGR system, but it shouldnt' be leaking out.

Might be worth getting them to clean/fix it under warranty if they think it is a job and then asking them/a vag com owner if it's possible to turn the EGR right down.

I was thinking of doing the "Catch Can" mod but its half way through the warranty at the moment so probally not a good idea.

Sorry if I'm off base here, but my understanding is that the "Catch Can" mod allows the positive crankcase pressure to vent to atmosphere with the return blanked off or to vent into a catch can with the catch can plumbed into the return. The gases being vented are primarily water-vapour and the odd bit of stray oil.

The EGR on the other hand recycles exhaust gases, post combustion, back into the next combustion cycle in an effort to minimize noxious emissions.

What the crank-case vent and EGR have in common is that they spread oil into the turbo, inter-cooler, sensors and related plumbing, which can do damage.

So by my reckoning, the "Catch Can" mod will have only a minimal (if any effect) on your oil leak, whatever its source.

(Sits back and waits to be killed by techs :D)

I thought the only oil source to get in there would be from the crankcase breather via the inlet manifold which in turn gunks up the EGR also.
