Help me find an engine... 1.8T or 1.6 16V

Featured Replies

Go for it Duggie. There will come a time in your life (usually when getting married and having kids) that doing that kind of work to a car takes 2nd place to family and in some cases probably means you wont be able todo it at all.

Some people take a year out of college/uni/work and travel the world and some people keep working but enjoy their cash by modifying their cars. I say good luck to you and enjoy it while you can. (looking forward to seeing the thread as the upgrade take place.

Did you read the insurance payout bit?

what he is saying duggie is that a short while ago you couldn't afford to run a car and changing the engine is only going to make this worse so spending all your money on doing the conversion and insuring it means your day to day costs will only rise with the same income that you said you struggled on.

just to put my tupence worth in. I think you have got the right idea. Don't just buy a better car, make something special, it's not about the money at all.

If you had an unlimited budget would you still do it? I think you might.

Good luck mate

is there any way of bolting on a turbo to the 1.4 engine? or would it need rebuilding to make it stronger?

you'd have to completely strip it mate and uprate all the internals, wouldn't be very cost effective

not at all, you could easily turbo charge a bog standard 1.4 engine :)

you'd only be able to run very low boost but you could still do it :)

there'd be no point in going to the expense of fitting a turbo if you're going to run very little boost

you mean like a standard 1.8t?

Currently part way through a 1.8t conversion on a corrado (so this may not be that relavent!), one of the first things you may find is using 1.8t clocks and keys is a pain! there are two easier options either use a de-coded ecu or use stand alone management. We will be using Qpeng plug and play management, check out there site Quantum Performance Engineering - Home, mostly golf info but may be useful. Just for interest we're using an AGU engine (large port head and cable throttle body is standard) with a K03s turbo and 315cc injectors, gonna be aiming for around 240bhp.
