Featured Replies

i went down to skospares in poole earlier today and they have an 20v turbocharged engine and gearbox complete taken from a 2007 octavia police car which has just come in, it's already out of the car too!! might be worth a look, iirc it's the 210bhp version which they normally put in the audi s3 but i could be wrong

I would personally do the conversion myself, but that's just so I know everything's sorted, and I'm ok with a spanner (but my Dad might as well have a ratchet attachment on his wrists).

But... you pays your monies, you makes your choice :) Good luck to him!

oh if you want to do it then fair enough and i am willing to help in any way i can seeing as i'm local but its definitly not something i'd do myself.

yeah, it's not something I "get" either, but if you need a hand at all (mainly shifting stuff probably) give either me or bengie a shout and you'll have two extra pairs of hands and extra boot space etc

Idea - why not buy that cupra and transplant all the bits to the fabia? no need for tuning or excessive messing about....

That'd get my vote also - although to be honest you could probably find one on ebay or a scrap heap that'd been rear-ended, or had spun off and hit something side on for even less.

Duggie,

Any ideas on the insurance on this once it's completed ?

I did read about a guy that stripped all the panels off an MR2, and made a Lamborghini or Ferrari replica using the remaining chassis. When it came to insuring it he had to insure it as a 'kit car' and found that he saved 2/3rds on his annual insurance because of it!

Don't think it works the same way with an engine conversion unfortunately, but you could look into it!

Cant see it being that way unfortunately. :D

**** the 1.6 16v get the 1.8t & good luck to you fella

What would be the biggest turbo-derv that you could stuff in, still retaining the standard gearbox and fuel system, dashboard and other bits?? (I'm making notes here...)

He wants a proper engine...

sigh..

Because the MK3 Ibiza is nothing like the Fabia. Mountings, pipe work, wiring etc is all different.

Why are you even thinking about the 1.6 16v? Tis a crap engine

Go for a 1.8t, looked into it myself, but its allready been done, so looking into 2.0T's and 2.0 tdi's which are starting to get transplanted now in a few cars

if you get 10k on the insurance claim go the whole hog and get it 4x4'd now that would be awesome:D

Duggie,

how special do you want to go?

1.8t is easy and has been done loads of times into that floorpan/chassis type... what about thinking outside the box - and making something truly unique??

rwd and bike engined....

works well for this polo

You reckon that would be possible for 5k budget though? Would agree that would be rather interesting though hehehe :D

The best part of engine work imo. I don't think I'd be anywhere as close to as passionate about my car if I'd given it to some garage to do all the work. I was involved in 90% of it's construction in either a supervisory role, or hands-on. Perhaps that's why I'm such a bloody saddo about my car....? :o

PS: Another 8 hours of hands-on work saturday again....

OOH! You real men... (pms sent sweeties) [jokes].

The insurace shouldn't go up too much, as I said, it's going through a friend. The reason i just want a 1.8T is because it is a one off (ish) but mostly because the car will still be reliable and able to do long-haul trips, as well as a few daily trips.

not so, i had a lupo gti lump in my base spec lupo and it was cool:)

but add another 250kgs of flabia and it wont cut the mustard.... not enough torque or power.

Duggie if your heart is set on 1.8t maybe a thread title edit to "find me a 1.8T" would cut the confusion - its a good choice of engine - not entirely convinced its worth paying someone to do especially as it should be relatively easy as most bits will already exsit.

mind you you could push the envelope... i always fancied doing the 4.2 v8 to the octy and going rwd but never got round to it... its been done in the s3 but cant find the link..
