Octavia Fault Codes

Hi,

Can anyone offer advice on the following? A mate has a Octy 1.8T estate, a recent purchase. It had a service, but the remider wasn't reset, so I did that for him, and also did a fault code read. There were a few:

So, I'm guessing the dump valve might be shot for a start, as they are a common item. Any advice on the others? The car has been intermmittently displaying the CEL.

Which suggests that the light levelling controller is stuffed to me- or at least not coded, but that 65535 error usually means a screwed contoller, doesn't it?

Any advice?

17705 is very common and is quite tricky to pin point to one cause. 17545 is too rich at idle, this will trigger the light and could well be attributable to no.1 lambda probe, as this is showing a fault. Check the wiring and electrical circuit for no.1 probe and if OK it may need a new probe.

For addresses 29 & 30 I should think are for xenon lights, are these fitted? You could erase the faults and look into the coding options to ensure that they are correct and then try to put them into basic settings.

The 65535 usually does mean a screwed controller, it might clear, or you may have to replace the controller.

I don't know it's got xenons: I'll have a look next time I see him.

That's what I thought: is there any special trick to try to clear it, and any idea where it is physically?

Between the exhaust manifold and the catalyst, you may be able to see it from the engine bay.

The give away with xenons is that they have igniter boxes with a high voltage warning on the back of the headlamps, also there will not be a manual level switch in the car. Advise on coding you can usually get from the label files, addresses 29 and 39 have no label files associated with them, I suspect that these are the units on each lamp, 29 - left, 39 - right. There may be a master controller for these, try address 55 and see whats there and if there is a label file with it.

I'll try that, thanks. For the moment I've cleared everything and next time I see him I'll rescan.

Presumably, running rich it has a chance of failing an emissions check, depending how severe it is?

The 'add' (additive) indicates that it is running rich at idle, the ECU has had to trim the fuelling and if it does it by more than +/- 10%, it'll throw a fault code. If it was doing it above idle it will say 'mult' (multiplicative). It could fail on the idle emissions.

I find that it sometimes helps to erase the learned values in the engine ECU, 01 engine, 10 adaptation, channel 00. This will in effect re-set the ECU, so it will re-learn the style in which the car is driven.

I have also known a throttle body clean was worked in bringing the adaptive values down.
