if everything is set up correctly the TV should select the correct aspect ratio. Sorry to be a pedant, but it is one of my 'things' 4:3 stretched to 16:9. I need to get out more.:(

It is setup correctly..... I've set it to auto stretch the edges only of any 4:3 broadcast.... I personally don't like watching 4:3 on a WS TV so always set my TV's up this way.... At this particular time i also don't want to have extended periods of time with a 4:3 picture on a brand new plasma screen. At least till it's got a good 200 or so hours behind it.

Cheers

Dave.

I have a Pioneer plasma and it has blanking sides that subtly adjust their luminance over time (buried in a sub menu to find it though) to stop the cells burning. Does the Panny not have something similar?

Yeah varying shades of grey.... Still prefer the full screen though. ;)

Gonna go and try my new addition now.... Hopefully back in a while with some pics.

Ok here's some pics of what i've added to the system today..................

I think my personal favourites are the blue, cyan & white. Have the option of one colour on steady or gently changing through all seven colours. Also the red is the same brightness as the others in reality.

Got to make a good job of installing the wiring over the next day or two but am pretty happy with the results. :)

Had a bit of a re-vamp this week...... The DVD and CD players have been replaced by a Sony BDP-S350 Blu-Ray player....... It's also meant i could get the 360 on the unit now rather than being stuck alongside.

The Sony player is absolutely great with great PQ and surprisingly good sounds when playing CD's too. Hooked the player up to the router and updated to the latest firmware which enables v2 features and picked up a Sandisk Cruzer 2gb memory stick for it for £5.99 today so am all set for using BD Live facilities on discs now too.

Same here..... The quality of DVD upscaling on the S350 has already stopped me replacing my Band of Brothers boxset with the Blu ray equivalent!!!!

That's looking great Dave

Where are people buying BluRay bargains from then?

I've personally been looking on Play.com & ebay...... Play have a 3 for 2 offer at the minute.

Cheers

Dave.

Cheers Dave. Yeah, usually go to Play for the rest :)

Steve

Tesco direct have a 3 for 2 on as well and their a little bit cheaper than play/amazon.

I got F4 from gamestation. :D

Cool, the PS3 does a pretty good job upscaling as well... I am tempted to go against my own rules and get Transformers on bluray just for the extra features. :D

You can send your DVD copy to me, if you like :D

I think it's swings & roundabouts with tesco & play..... Depends what your buying as some of the films in the offer are cheaper with one than the other but others are the opposite..... Also Play have free delivery where as Tesco i think would work out a couple of quid.

Both worth looking at though and trying your set of three films on both to see who comes out cheapest.

Agreed.. either way they're both lots cheaper than highstreet places like Zavvi. Nation Treasure 2 DVD=£7 Bluray=£23

Yet they wonder why the format isn't taking off as quickly as they'd like.

I also struggle to find 3 movies in the 3 for 2 offer that I either don't have already on dvd or that I think are worth paying that much for.:(

Having had another concerted look last night, I agree. I'm not overly fussed, as I have no complaints on the quality of upscaled DVDs anyway.

And yes, the price is another thing; one thinks it's overinflated! It's like going back to 1999 with DVDs all over again

Steve

Nice setup
