My new baby..... ;o)

Having had another concerted look last night, I agree. I'm not overly fussed, as I have no complaints on the quality of upscaled DVDs anyway.

And yes, the price is another thing; one thinks it's overinflated! It's like going back to 1999 with DVDs all over again

Steve

Agreed... good job there are other sources of HD material as well. ;)

My bad luck has struck again....... 8 days after buying it there's been a mini price war between a couple of online sellers and the price of the S350 has been down to £129 yesterday and into this morning....... then back up to the normal £180-ish this afternoon....... I've even missed out on the Richers price match by a day too as if it had been within 7 days i could have had the extra £70 refunded.

I knew the talked about price war/crash would happen just after i bought it....... It alsways does. ;)

Ooooohhhh well not to worry.

Cheers

Dave.

Thats quite a jump in the price... I guess it's to be expected really.

Within 14 days of me buying my 42PZ81 it dropped £50 in price, so I popped back into Comet and got the difference refunded. :D

Forgot to put a little update to the system on the last post......

We went in to Richers yeaterday to have a listen to some speakers and we have ordered the replacements for our current setup..... The existing Sony fronts have served me well for approx 18 years. They've been great performing speakers and have meant i've never had to have a sub..... Till now. The rears are JPW mini monitors which have been performing well for around 12 years or so.

The new arrivals are two pairs of Mordaunt Short Alumni 2's for the fronts & rears. Along with an Alumni 9 sub. We already have the Alumni 5 centre so will now have the complete set. All in piano black gloss, apart from the sub which strangely comes in a matt black finish. We also ordered the matching stands for the 2's and will be picking them up next Monday. We forgot to call through first so the speakers weren't set up correctly but i'll tell you what..... they sounded great anyway!!!! I've seen some dodgy reviews.... well a couple... saying they weren't up to much but having seen more than plenty saying the opposite, and obviously hearing them for ourselves, they got the thumbs up.

The mrs is happy as she can't wait to get rid of the old one's cos she's not a fan of the 'old school' BIG speakers but i've finally given in and gone for some replacements.

Cheers

Dave.

Very nice setup.

Well the setup has changed again.................

Replaced the speakers at christmas and now have a full Mordaunt Short Alumni setup with An Alumni5 centre, 2 Alumni2's front & rear and an Alumni9 sub. Also had Sky+HD installed on Friday so now have an Amstrad HD box in place of the Sky+ box which is now upstairs in the bedroom.

Xbox?!

I defected to the 360 a few years ago after having playstations for years when the PS3 kept getting put back and put back etc..... Also the price at the time and the fact i still only have one mate who has a PS3 compared to 10-20 who have 360's has kept me with the 360.

Cheers

Opposite for me, I forged an HD path with my XBox, then all my mates got PS3 :(

Lovely tele. My brother has either the same or very similar and he loves it.

Also, nice set up - Id love something similar but need a house first

Was round his last week, and can confirm its one hell of a nice set up

Dave's house is like walking into a tech fair...

Gadgets galore, its ace :D

This definitely looks like a child-free household (that, or they were tied to the banisters whilst preparations for these photos were taking place) :D

Our lounge is that tidy for precisely 30 seconds after the vaccum cleaner is put away!!

Nice set up, btw. I like the Mordant Short speaker range too, though I ended up with a Q-Acoustics 1050i surround sound package that sounds great but the fronts are big!

Make sure that centre speaker is shielded or it will play havoc with the comps either side of it.

And for those wondering, Onkyo and Mo & Short are both quality brands.

Nice set up mate, I'm out of the av game these days as the swimbo moans about anything of that ilk, but I used to be an early adopter when things first started with a full on Yamaha set up, then entered the Nicam tv's and my then jewel a Marantz surround processing amp, cost me £200 nearly 20 yrs ago, but the sound was like nothing I'd ever heard before, didn't even compare to 5.1 - 6.1 - 7.1 back then and eventually gave way to my last extravagant purchase which was a Sony DB 1070 and a matching DVD player, the DVD was £250 back in 2002 on it's own, but as she always says....turn it down a bit I just don't see the point anymore as I do my music through the computer and video on a portable these days.

Always wanted either a gold or blue finish set up, but blacks in fashion again sadly, I much prefer silver finish it looks so much classier imo.

Yeah the centre is shielded as standard.

I've got Sky back in today to replace the HD box as it's got the seemingly very common issue with the Amstrad one's where by the contrast is stuck on high.

Hopefully it'll either be a working Amstrad or better still one of the new Pace boxes.

Cheers

Dave.

I'm liking those new speakers alot.

I really need to replace my current ones but I'm leaning towards some Kef ones to match the sub. :)

The MS's do look and sound great..... I think i'd go with your plan of keeping with the kef's if you already have a sub etc....

On a different note................

Got the Amstrad HD box replaced by a spanky new Pace one this morning after they turned up with another Amstrad last night which had the same fault as the original one!!!! I had a rant over the phone and they 'redirected' a new Pace to us..... So apologies to the person who was expecting a Pace box install today. :D

SD & HD PQ is sooo much better than the Amstrad was so i'm happy. :D

How are you finding the alumni setup?

Ive been looking at them, but still not convinced replacing full-range speakers with little ones... whats it like for listening to music?

They're bedded in nicely now and the sound is absolutely stunning. Very crisp and clear at all levels. It used to be a case that the dog would sit staring at a particular speaker thinking the noise was real but since having these i've gone in the kitchen twice thinking i'd heard a noise in there only to realise it had come from the speaker near the kitchen door!!!!! :o:O:O

Well worth booking a session in your local Richer's demo room to see what they sound like in the flesh.:thumbup::thumbup:

The Pace HD box got updated to the new EPG this week too..... Seems to have caused a problem with the sound in that as long as the sky box is powered up in either stand-by or when switched on it holds the input to the amp so stopping the phono input from the plasma from kicking in as it used to when the sky was in stand-by.

Ended up moving inputs around on the amp with the ipod being moved to the MD input then the sky box to the CD optical input leaving the plasma phono input on it's own on it's input. Renamed all the inputs on the amp to reflect their new uses and all now ok.

I'm not too happy with the new EPG and some of it's glaring flaws but hopefully they'll get sorted at some point.

Cheers

Dave.
