Electrical Fault(s)

Featured Replies

My '07 vRS has just gone into the garage potentially long term. As they don't know what is wrong with it! (Allegedly)

Rear wiper won't turn off...

Windscreen squirter front and rear won't work...

Dash lights flash on like a saturday night clubbing...

Engine management, DPF and coil light flash up and then the car goes into limp mode....Problem cleared by a main dealer....Then sequence starts again within 200 miles...

Car has only covered 32k miles...

VAG com suggests there is a major earth, but as yet they haven't been able to pin point it...I don't know if all these faults are connected, but it seems bizarre that they all occured at approx the same time...

Dealer manager has suggested it could be the CAN bus (Whatever that is?) Either way having had the car for a day, they are still none the wiser on what is causing these faults!!

Hopefully it'll be back soon...

bummer. Hope they fix it soon mate.

have a look behind front passenger headlamp, I noticed an earth wire on mine rubbing against the headlight housing, I positioned the wire away from this, worth a punt

Cheers James...It's at the dealers as fortunately it's still under warranty...My 3rd Skoda, and the first one with a fairly major fault...

DPF sorted...reloaded new software and it has been ok:D Still a fault with the wipers/squirters....They had resolved it which lasted 6 hours, replacing a faulty rear wiper motor

A quick update!

I have now been without my car for a total of 8 days and counting (3 seperate spells) in the last 3 weeks.

The car has an as yet unknown electrical fault, which has now been put on the BAD register (The register that Skoda mechanics nationwide can tap into to see if a fault they have, has happened in another part of the country).

It continually blows fuses, and the symptoms below....

Symptoms are non working windscreen washers and a rear wiper that wipes constantly! Not great in the hot weather with no moisture! It is also surprising how many people flash you from behind to tell you your rear wiper is on:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Parts replaced to date:

Rear wiper motor

Fuse Board

Parts of the wiring loom

Still no cure though..........I went to collect TOM TOM from my car today, it looked like a stock car with most the interior trim and sound deadening material in the car removed, as they investigate more wiring loom/body contact.

I now have 600 miles to cover in the next 2 days in my beautiful courtesy car..................A Fabia 1.2:cool:

Fingers crossed for you mate , hope you get it all sorted soon :o

This fault has now re occured. Frustratingly for the third time! Out of a year of ownership my car has now spent 3 weeks in the dealers having these electrical faults diagnosed and repaired. The fault has been traced to the headlamp washers (I have xenons) when the washers are activated they seem to cause friction on the wires resulting in worn wires and exposed cable and therefore a short. The symptoms are loss of ability to wash screen, rear wiper stays on constantly. Surely if other people have xenons, then they also must have encountered these problems? It is hugely frustrating, and I am losing patience and confidence in the car. This is an '07 car and shouldn't be causing me this grief.

At least hopefully they have found the cause and effected a permanant solution. It is cases like this that should hopefully be logged with the factory and improvements in design carried out. On reading your earlier posts I was about to suggest the worst scenario.. i.e. a mouse or two finding a cosy corner under your bonnet to wreak havoc chewing a hidden wire causing a short, even a fire and a hefty insurance claim rather than an extended warranty claim.

Hope all is fine from now on. G.K.
