Buying a low mileage Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I mean REALLY low mileage. It's a 55 plate 1.2 with about 8800 on the clock. I have spoken to the dealer and it did about 4000 miles in the first year, about 4000 in the second as was barely driven during the third. Belonged to an old chap. Not driven it yet but I wondered what people's opinions were on such vehicles. Worth a try or forget it and find one with a nice sensible 20k on the clock. FYI it's for an old chap who won't be doing many miles in it!

I bought a five year old 1.4 16V Fabia Elegance (in 2006) which had only done 9,500 miles with one owner and full service history!

I paid £5,500 in 2006 (I don't know if that was good deal or not), but I really liked the car, once I test drove it. Before buying it I had a ten year old Maza 121 (e.g a Ford Fiesta look alike!), and the fabia was like a luxury car compared to my Mazda.

It all depends upon the price, and the model type (e.g does it have a CD stereo, ABS, Power Steering, Electric Windows etc). or is it a bsic model?

Thanks for your comments. Car is very good from a price and spec point of view, much better than most of the others I have spotted in main dealers. My only concern was the low mileage and the car having been 'under driven' for most of its life. Think I might take a look anyway - a mechanically competent colleague has told me cars like that do loosen up after they have been driven a bit.

My 6.5 year old Fabia 1.9 TDI only had 13,300 miles on the clock when I bought it.

I have since added 10,000 miles in 7 months.

I shouldn't worry too much about it being under driven so long as it's had a regular oil change - mine was serviced every year despite it only covering 1,000 miles on some occasions. The only age-related problems I have had were with the tyres - they were still the originals so had age-related cracks in the side wall.
