Squeak! & clonking!

Featured Replies

Ok ive done a search but would like a bit more help/info please.

For a while now my car has been making a clonking noise from the near side sometimes over potholes but mosty when going right like on a roundabout! it's a similar type of nosie i get when changing gear too 1st- 2nd! (had poly dogbone mount fitted)

Just to rule out things it could be.. ive had new poly bushes in wishbone back and front, new arb and bushes, new droplinks, and have koni fsd's which are 3 months old, on the standard springs.

Just recently i also noticed that when going over holes/ drain covers it squeaks too!! If you put pressure from the top of the car and bounce it up and down (not easy koni's are rock solid) there is no nosie so im thinking it must be something related to the wheel ie ball joint etc

Any ideas thanks.

Sounds similar to my noise, but mine is more constant. I'm suspecting a dodgy CV joint. The squeaking could be the rubber boot.

Radiator mounts?

Mine made a sort of clonk noise over bumps, as the radiator banged back and forth.

Changed them a few weeks back and clonk has gone!

If it only happens on bumps, and then irrespective of whether you're turning or not, I'd say radiator mounts.

If it only happens when you're turning, and then it's worse one way than the other, early signs of a CV joint or wheel bearing.

Thanks for the replys, yeah it's worse when turning so could be cv joint, have to get my local garage to have a look. I reckon the radiator mounts could be making a noise too. How easy is it to check them?

Radiator mounts are dead easy. On a cold engine (easier on your hands) try and rock the radiator, and see if it creaks. If it does you have worn rad mounts.
