AA Car Insurance

Featured Replies

S.W.M.B.O. changed her car insurance from CIS after they started to want cartoon money at renewal time. She searched around and went with the AA. Days after signing up got a letter threatning legal action as she had defrauded on her direct debit payments,(even though none had been taken and first payment paid by debit card. Eventually this was sorted out. Next she is getting a new car, phoned up to change details and arrange cover note, was told that Suzuki Swift is not on their database they would phone back. As you can quess they didn't. She had to phone them, only to get the reply that they deal with Zurich insurance and they cannot insure a Suzuki Swift????, but as they were brokers they would see if they could get quotes for her. They did ....£848 to insure a Suziki Swift 1.5????.A search of the internet found insurance from Tesco for £360 and that is with our son who is under 25 on it.Needless to say signed up for that and got insurance doc next day, after phoning to say it was required to arrange tax for her new car.Phoned back AA to cancel, only to be told "you cannot cancel",after much arguing that she would not be paying anymore to them as they cannot cover her, they came up with "you will have to pay £35 cancellation fee.Grrrrr, AA car insurance customer service 0/10 Tesco customer service 10/10.

Sorry for the rant just had to get this off my chest.

.... and breathe

Have you tried complaining to consumer direct. Perhaps they can sort out something

I find it amazing they couldn't cover a suzuki - how silly is that

I have to say though, the paying of insurance by direct debit is a bit of a grey area and can see why the insurers get a bit annoyed by people getting insurance then not keeping up the payments.

Anyway, at least it only cost you £35 admin fee, I hope you wasted as much of their time as possible for it.

Do you query the CIS quote with them, or ask them to match the lower quote from Tesco? I have found CIS very good to deal with.

How soon after starting the insurance with the AA did you cancel?

Yes,did phone but fell on deaf ears they just arn't intrested. Same for me I have been with the CIS for 30 years and had an any driver policy which was £350 for my Octavia Vrs,but they have stopped any driver policies and wanted £870 for me and my wife as a named driver. Again phoned an pleaded, and even informed them that if I went on tinternet as a new customer it was cheaper than their quote, but they wouldn't budge, changed to admiral in the end.

Changed to AA in June.

Anyone with AA - At renewal time get online quote and compare against renawal price -I did and found AA are one of these companies who only give best prices to "brand new customers " .So my business went to another company to whom I was a brand new customer - not as if I'm one of the less desirable customers -held licence 40+ years ,it's spotless, as is my claims record (protected ,and 12yrs + since I returned to car ownership from company car driving) ,and car - not exactly a high performewr at 70 bhp.

Have got quotes from the AA in the past, and they've usually been about £400 more than average. I also don't like their attitude, their press releases can be surprisingly anti-car and anti-anyone younger than 90.

The AA are way too expensive and yes the service is very poor.

Same here, had a quote from the AA a few years back for a Fiat Punto 1.2 - and that was some silly figure like £700.
