Electric windows doing my head in (after heavy rain)

Featured Replies

My mk 1 Oty has a problem with all 4 windows, went on the motorway yesterday and it pelted it down really bad with rain now since then all the windows even if you use the drivers door switches or each door switch the windows keep stopping and you have to keep pressing the button constant on off on of just to get the windows down or up.

I cant just keep my finger on the switch and they go down as they keep stopping every 1mm

I also noticed on the back drivers side rear door switch was flickering when i have the interior lights on (dash lights) all the other door switches are lit up as normal just the back rear passsenger door switch is flickering.

Does this sound like water has got in somewhere, if so whee should i start looking as its effecting all 4 windows.

Should i start with the rear door with the flickering window switch or is it likley to be somewhere else.

Thanks everyone.

The flickering of the light on the rear drivers door would indicate something is not right - probably in the loom near to the hinge - so I would start with that door. Try disconnecting the electrics in that door and see if the other windows then start to behave properly. I suspect there is a some water ingress into that door.

:iagree: When you're in there, check the door drains.

Had this on a Peugeot 406 before. It was a faulty drivers door switch, but it was rain damage. the switch had corrosion on terminals which caused bad earths and mis-signals. It was on taxi. Taxi drivers are in and out of their cars all the time in all weather. This is probably what caused the damage? the light flickering definitely sounds like an earth problem.

I would take the door cards off and sit inside while someone outside pours buckets of water on the car. see if it is coming in anywhere from the glass, rain channels (inner & outer) and doors rubber seals. once this is eliminated check the wire looms are not damaged and re-wire them if you have to. replace switches from scrappy might be a cheap way of eliminating this also.

Make sure you check you are water-tight first!!!

Good luck
