hi , ive just brought a standard mk1 VRS and i was talking to my mate whos mum works with a skoda and VW tunning company . anyway , my mate thinks my dump valve or Diverter Valve is knacked because it makes a flunting noise instead off a normal woosh noise . is this true ? also the engine managment light has just come on , could it be due to this ?

Edited by VRS Nick

Hello mate, Yeah the dump valve should'nt make a flunting noise just a whoosh like your mate said, why not change it and see if the eml go's off. standard bosch dv are about £18.

if it is the std one it has prob perrished the rubber part inside it so it leaks

std on is cheap enough, or you could get the bailey dv30 or the forge 007p. up to you

good luck mate

billy

Theres a standard one doing the rounds on Ebay at the mo at about £14

But why replace with a standard item when you can upgrade!

As claytarget god says either the dv30 or 007p are popular with the Brisky boys, theres a few Forge SplitR's creeping up on here too which is what i have

Hope you get it sorted!

thanks for the replys guys . my dads mate works with the AA and he put it on his computer . he used the skoda data first and it came up with P1296 code . then tryed it with the VW data and came up with 17608 code .

this code 17608 came on when i reved the car a couple of times , he cleared it and did it again and we reved it again and it came back up with this code again .

my dads mate knows someone whos a skoda and VW specialist and told me to bring it over in the week and he will put it on his computer which has all the update software .

so she what comes up next week and any problems it will be going back to the garage !

been looking on the search engine and the codes seem to be this

17608- Boost Pressure Control Valve

P1296 - Cooling System malfunction

ill keep you all updated as soon as i find out .

the splitR is not bad if you wonna spend a bit of dosh, Not sure mate but if you do go for it I would keep most of the air going back into the system.

if you dont know the R valve is a cross between atmosferic and re-cerc. the 1.8T engines are made to recerc so when you dump the charged air the engine thinks it is still in the system, but if it isnt it will eventually throw faults at you and go into limp mode.

I hade the DV26 think it is, atmospheric valve and it was good, sounded ace but the od ocasion went to limp cos the air was gettin out coz the valve is not always shut when accel slightly.

hope some of that helps and ive not confused you lol

if you want a bit of noise and keep 100% relyability jus get CAI and the 2 I mentioned.

or see what the lads say about the R and what settings they use.

Iv not had any issues with mine, tho do you think it would be more beneficial if i set it up to be fully-recirculating?

if you put it full recerc then there is no point in spendin the money on it, they are the best for keepin the engine happy aswell as givvin you a bit of noise,

i found wi the dv26 atmosferic valve the boost peaked at 0.8 bar but when i went back to standard it was 1.2 bar.

i think it is ok jus that the system thinks that there is more air in there than there actually is thats all.

if it feels good and doesnt throw faults then it is ok, jus dont open it fully,

end of the day it is down to personal pref, if you got vag-com do a few runs on dif settings and get the boost presure on the graf, that will tell you what setting is good on the boost and gives good noise.

think ill go back to the 26 for a while jus for the noise lol..

hehe

K, what is the shortshifter you got? is it easy to fit?

jus noticed it on ur sig mate.

I got it off Ebay a while ago now,its basically the same as a b&m one except you can retain the oem gearknob, cost £40

I havnt fitted it yet coz it looks a bit hard so i'll have to find someone who can

Cant wait to get it done maybe in a couple of months

Both are ok for your car, I'd edge towards the Forge but they are both better than the original

The forge 007p is a nice big chunky DV, when I was given the old one back i was suprised its a tiny piece of cheap plastic in comparison.

Get a carbonio CAI for the noise too, I havent driven with the stereo on since having it fitted!

agreed they are both good, you wont need a fitting kit for the forge, or the bailey, the forge one is easier to strip and service ur self.

ive jus looked and there is loads to choose from mate, try and get the cheepest,

there is 2 that look the same but the newer ones have the angled top bit were the older ones are all round if you get that,

good luck mate

K

that looks good mate, take it that that is the stick end? isnt the vRS a short shift anyway? plus were can I get sone uprated parts thet replace the crappy plastic bits on the gearbox end?

soz for the hijack,

lol

nice mate it does give a nice noise wi the CAI, if you want ur bay to look ace and you got the money then go for the Carbonia, but if you dont have loads of cash and arnt really bothered about how ace ur bay looks then get the £40 CAI off ebay, they work just as well and dont look that bad neither, I put a few layers of tesco value tights over the filter thou jus in case.

You are only supposed to use recirc valve on the 1.8t the atmos ones will throw up fault codes. There is nothing wrong with the plastic DV, this is what i use without any problems.I have also got a forge in my garage but don't use it now. If you do go the forge/ Bailey DV route don't forget to tell your insurance or you risk being uninsured.

well ive been to my dads mate and the faults are what i said

17608- Boost Pressure Control Valve

P1296 - Cooling System malfunction

he thinks it could be the dump valve cousing the boost problem so im going to see my mates mum who works for awesome-gti too see if they can get me a forge 007p or the bailey . hopfully this will sort the as for the cooling sysetem , he asked me if the car has been re-maped i boosting problem .

said no , he just said this fault could be down to the other one being on or it beening played about with before i got it .

when i get the forge 007p or the bailey dump valve told me to fit it and bring back and he will see if the other fault has come of .

P1296 - Cooling System malfunction

I think thats the code I had on my old Octavia RS. As far as I can remember, the sensor in the expansion tank is a common fault. Do you get the temp light flashing and some dashboard warning "bongs" shortly after start up? If so, then get the expansion tank replaced - it's fairly cheap from memory.
