Hi all, Philnz here, over the past twenty-four years, a resident of New Zealand but now living in Phuket, Thailand. Although I was born in Horsham, Sussex, England.

I am now retired, sort of anyway, and am considering buying a Skoda Fabia 1.9 SDI from a friend in Phuket, so I have a couple of questions: -- how reliable is the engine in this model, as being a diesel it would be ideal for the mileage one could obtain; secondly there was a Skoda dealer here in Phuket and I believe has ceased importing the cars, so my question is how easy will it be to obtain spares/service for this car in Phuket, Thailand?.

The cars are usually reliable; check out the Fabia and Octavia 1 fora for more on that. Note that I think TDis are more common though.

Its possible your local dealer has just ceased selling Skodas and there will be other dealers around Thailand.
