Company car - Which choice??

Featured Replies

Hoping for a regional role soon which will give me a company can. This basic list is long but not very interesting. I have the choice of Ford cars upto £17k OTR price. My choice is therefore based on size and spec, either small car with high spec or large car with basics.

I have reduced the list to the following.

1) Ford Fiesta 2.0 ST500

2) Ford Focus 1.8TDCI Titanium (probably the one I'd go for)

3) Ford Mondeo 1.8TDCI Edge (base model)

All 3 are around £60 a month tax. I wouldn't get a fuel card and only business milage would be paid for so I am not really considering the Fiesta as it's a petrol and I'm 6' tall. 2 of my friends are at the same level, 1 has the Focus and the other the Mondeo. Both say their cars are good for a company car.

Which would you choose my fellow Briskodians??

1) Ford Fiesta 2.0 ST500

or

2) Ford Focus 1.8TDCI Titanium <-- I'd go for the 1.6 TDCi instead though.

I would be doing around 35k miles a year business millage so comfort is essential

Focus :)

I'd go for the 1.6TDCi Focus then...

Not sure what the Titanium spec ones are like, but I've spent hours behind the wheel of my ST with no ill effects. :)

Is there no Audi's on there?

Ex colleugue of mine has just had a company A3 sportback 1.9TDi, tax will be £30 a month for him he says as its under 120g for the co2.

Which is the exact same band as the 1.6TDCi Focus... But instead of getting a old PD105 8v unit you can have a new 1.6CR 16v jobbie. :D

Not sure how a Titanium spec Focus compares to a boggo spec A3 though.

I got extremely bored of driving the Mk2 Focii (various trim, from LX to Zetec to Ghia etc - various engines, but the most time with a 1.6 TDCi) - I spent over a year driving them

Then i've recently had a couple of Mk2 Facelift Focii, found them awful over the Pre-Facelift - which was a god car, but boring.

The most fun i've had from the Fords i was given was with a Fiesta 1.4 Zetec, which i only had for 2 weeks :D

Didnt realise the focus was the same band.

Focus, the base Mondeo looks cack with the tiny wheels. Dare I say the Focus Estate looks better than the hatch also?? :)

Focus saloon, then you can pretend its a Volvo :)

Seeing that you currently have a superb, will you be keeping that or replacing it with this company car? If so, do you need the extra space of the mondeo?

Given that you plan on doing 35K miles, the fiesta cannot be a serious contender.

I would sell the Superb to release £200 I pay for my car loan. Fiesta was only a thought, with the Mondeo and Focus the main contenders. The Mondeo has steel rims (didn't know you could still get those) but does have cruise and climate. The Focus doesn't have cruise (never use it anyway) but I think leather interior. Why is the 1.6TDCI a popular suggestion over the 1.8TDCI??

According to Parkers, the 1.6TDCI is the quicker of the 2 cars. Whatever happened to the saying "there's no replacement for displacement"

Why is the 1.6TDCI a popular suggestion over the 1.8TDCI??

From what I remember when looking at focii, the 1.8 is a ford derived engine and the 1.6 is the PSA hdi and is the more modern engine. Probably why performance is better.

I think the 1.6 has a dpf - requirement to change at 5yrs/75K miles was what put me off the focus. A couple of years ago the price I found of £750+ which sort of negates a lot of saving on diesel. Don't know if its still the same now.

The company scheme is for 4yrs or 80k miles. I would imagine the car would only see me for 2 years and a bit. At the end of the day it will be a brand new car for £60 a month, with no tax or insurance or runnning costs other than unlimited private mileage. Can't go wrong really

Just lookes at the other cars on the list.

1) Volvo S40 1.8S or 1.6SE Petrol

2) VW Golf 1.9TDI Bluemotion or 2.0SDI

3) Toyaota Prius........WOW

Just a quick update......I've got the job:) but I don't get to chose the car I het. I will be given one from the car pool. The car pool does contain the executive cars and also the normal cars. Could therefore get a Mondeo ST Titanium X or a Toyota Prius. Fingers crossed

Grab the BMW keys :)

Would be nice. I'm going to ask for a bigger car due to the milage I'm going to do and because I'm 6' tall. Hopefully I'll get atleast a Focus but you never know. I know someone doing the same job who did get the Prius.

Depends on the trim level, but having driven all of the above discussed cars except a prius ( could you see yourself in one? ), I would go for the Golf. Leaps and bounds ahead in terms of quality ( especially over the focus - i actually liked the 1.8tdci apart from it being as rough as the proverbial and only giving me 30mpg )

Also for me, I have found the Volkswagen dealerships the best out of all the manufacturers cars I have driven. But this could just be luck.

AH ...just read you may have access to something a little more Uber ..nice:)
