Tyres Letting Out Air Very Slowly

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I had two spare tyres taken off the rim and put onto the alloy at a Kwik Fit tyre dealer

These tyres had been inflated about a year ago and were very solid

I ve noticed recently that if I pump the tyre then leave the car for a few days the pressure drops to about 10 PSI

Does anyone what this could be?

Its happened on both tyres and the guy who put these on did a good job and looked very experienced.

Check the valves are in properly.

IIRC, when fitting new tyres they put new valves and balance.

I had a newly fitted tyre go slowly down & it was that valve wasn't screwed in properly.

Thanks

Is this something I can do or does the garage need to do this?

Is it turning the gold plated edge clockwise?

What he said - the valves can get some dirt in them or be loose and leak. Otherwise its the bead not sealing on the rim (some dirt in there).

Clockwise - tighten. best to use a special tool to do it, which comes in handy if you ever decide to let someone's tyres down.....

Screw in the tread?

Screw in the tread?

does he need a special screwdriver for that?

:P

either some debris in the tyre like a screw or nail or the valve is dodgy or has contaminate. if its just a valve then it shouldnt cost much, dunno if they can repair tyres these days but if so it be much cheaper than a new one.

At Kwik-Fit? Really?

Could be a leaking valve, or corrosion on the wheel rim.

I'd go get them checked out. At a tyre place. Other than Kwik-Fit preferably.

could be any of numerous reasons...need to submerge in a tyre bath and locate the problem.

Just because he lookes experianced doesnt mean he is...

Take them back, get them to check it, and maybe fit them again...

they should do it for free, its their fault.

Or if your like me, a dodgy tyre.

Appeared to have a knot in, like a bit of wood and its crackes round the weakest point.

But 2 dodgy tyres..??

Bit unlikely... espesh when only 2 tyres fitted.

Sounds like bad workmanship to me.!

Get those tyres checked out.

drooping to 10psi over a few days isnt a slow release of air!!!!

Mine don't drop but my sisters drops to about 25 or under once in about a month. But her tyres are quite old and prob need replacing soon
