change from 2.0 estate to 4x4 estate - TWO WEEKS!

Featured Replies

Hi All. New guy here.

I presume a new 4x4 will have the same rubbishy front speakers as before :thumbdwn: . The glare on high freqs is terrible, even with treble turned down to -6. Am thinking of installing Infinity 6500cs (or similar). Your advice is much needed, please  .

Yes, the speakers aren't good. Have a look in my ICE here for advice on speakers, and nice choice of car! :D

Thanks DGW - will stroll through the thread during the next week.

Other point: Xenon lights. Is there a worthwhile benefit from changing the default bulbs to xenon ones - our local Parts shop stocks them. What extra do you get from coughing up loads of dosh ordering xenon lights, at the Dealers?

I think I know what you are saying, we have an Octy L&K with factory fit xenon lights which is a complete xenon unit & they are brilliant, Ive also put Xenon effect bulbs in my Octy 4x4 & they were **** Nice pretty colour but no good at speed, cheapest option is to keep the std lights & fit Rally type Bulbs, (100W or more)Tadge illegal but you can see at speed & they are not that expensive.

Standard fit Skoda Xenons as with most Xenons only have xenon for dip & still rely on a bulb for main beam, Ultimate solution as one person has done is to fit a high wattage main beam with their Xenons

I'd be following the last suggestion from Stuart.

The 4x4 I had, I hated the dipped light, far to short when driving roads you know at night. Changed to Phillips Vision+ H4, good results from dipped, still able to out drive them at night on familiar roads, perhaps I should think about that for a moment...

The disadvantage of the xenon light pack (not effect bulb) is the total removal to change a bulb. Local dealer replaced one FOC for me, only for the other to blow a day later...I have some chap and cheerfull 100W's to go in, brought by a good chap in an L&K from halfods ;)

We think they had an e mark, feel free to dismantle my car officer ;)..oh thats an advantage now.

In Short: Xenon light pack from dealer = real xennon and a great light..still a bit short on dipped, but so much brighter it kind of cancels out the range as you WILL see better...if that makes sense...I'm not sure you would ever get the cost back on them come trade in, so if you have the spare funds get them, else some bright bulbs at about 10 quid from powerbulbs :D

Just drive around with your front fogs on, they'll help shed a bit more light. Usually people travelling in the opposite direction will give you a flash also as a mark of respect for your light show. :D

If you think the Skoda has bad lights you should try driving a Toyota Camry I had a 1989 model 4x4 Exec saloon for 13 years it had better lights inside than out, splendid car otherwise, but was a nightmare to take out at night.

Some of them are. :(

Has anyone suggested Jabba to you yet.......

Dennis, I would certainly suggest a trip to Jabba as an essential thing for any 4x4 owner to do, gives the car attitude & you a big grin

:D

I had one of these once. Could have done with the 185bhp GTfour engine off the Celica as it did everything really well apart from overtaking !

Been threading through the Site with its millions of comments.

What's the benefit of a superchip, in reality, on the 150 engine. And how does it affect insurance?

k.

superchip's have not got the best reputation, but a remap from Jabba, APR or Revo should see you on the healthy side of 220bhp.

(and how does it affect insurance... it goes up! :D)

I can only give my experience but having had my 4x4 Jabbad I can only say its a total transformation & makes the car FANTASTIC to drive & leaves you with a permenant grin, Its quicker than a TT225, honest!!

Doesn't with LV. :D

Sorry, forgot to say, unless your insurance was more to begin with :D

Picked up car - silver colour (not 1st choice, but loads-a-money off). Love the turbo whistle when window is down!

Have to go up to Scotland (from Derbyshire) on Saturday, so looking forward to a great drive.

Back from Scotland -- car smooth, tight both engine-wise and interior-wise. Never seen so much rain ...

Having just retired, items like visitng Jabba etc are in the future. Are there any 'cheap-ish' changes I can make that will improve efficiency / reliability, please?

k.
